IPL Auction 2025 - Umran Malik Ready to Unleash His Potential with KKR

Umran Malik is no longer the sought-after player he once was. In 2022, he was a standout performer, claiming 22 wickets in 14 matches, with his express pace making him a thrilling prospect. Fast bowlers who take wickets and dominate batters are always in demand. However, he couldn't replicate that form in the following season and faded from the spotlight in 2023, losing his place in the limelight.
Umran Malik Excited for New Chapter with KKR
The 2025 IPL mega auction marks a fresh start for Umran Malik. After initially going unsold, he was later picked up for Rs 75 lakh by Kolkata Knight Riders. While the amount is far less than what many had anticipated for him just two years ago, Umran is excited to prove himself. Determined to make a strong comeback to the Indian team after over a year and a half, he promises to showcase a revamped version of himself.
He said, “ I am really happy to join KKR this season, so excited to don the KKR jersey. I just can’t wait. They are the defending champions, and I am sure they will win another title this season. I am grateful and thankful to them for giving me this chance, confident about getting plenty of opportunities this time with KKR.”
He added, “ I am 200 percent fit and raring to go. You will see a different Umran Malik this time. I want to perform well in the IPL and make a comeback to the Indian side. The IPL has been a massive platform for most cricketers, including me.”
Umran Malik’s pace had slowed due to recurring injuries, but he’s determined that won’t be the case moving forward. Despite being injured at the moment, he is confident about his recovery. With his comeback already scheduled, he’ll play his first match in over eight months in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, followed by the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He’s optimistic about his form for IPL 2025, aiming to consistently bowl in the 150s, matching Mayank Yadav's speed from last year.
He further said, “ I am going to kill it in IPL 2025. I am confident of taking a number of wickets this time and just want to go out and perform for KKR. Speed gives me a thrill. I am not sure whether I will touch 160, but I am confident I will take plenty of wickets at speeds in the 150s.”
Umran Malik’s Performance in IPL So Far
Umran Malik's IPL career has shown fluctuating performances across the seasons. In 2024, he featured in one match but didn't pick up any wickets, with an economy rate of 15. In 2023, he played eight matches, claiming five wickets at an average of 43.4, with a strike rate of 24 and an economy rate of 10.85. His standout season was in 2022, where he excelled, taking 22 wickets in 14 matches with an impressive average of 20.18 and an economy of 9.03.
In IPL 2021, Umran Malik played three matches and took two wickets at an average of 48. Over his 26 IPL appearances, he has claimed 29 wickets, averaging 26.62 with an economy rate of 9.39. While his performances have been inconsistent, his raw pace and potential make him a promising player for future IPL seasons.The cricket betting analysts will definitely have a close eye on this young speedster and sure he will be one of the bowlers to bet on during the IPL season.
