Lockie Ferguson Creates Incredible T20I Record against PNG

New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson has recorded the most promising bowling figures in T20 International Cricket while playing in a Group C match between New Zealand and Papua New Guinea (PNG) on 17th June (Monday). The 33-year-old fast bowler presented a record-breaking bowling performance achieving the magnificent figures of four overs, four maidens and three wickets in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Lockie Ferguson’s outstanding form broke the earlier record of Saad Bin Zafar of Canada, who registered the figures of 4-4-0-2 in a 2021 match against Panama. Ferguson’s skills cost the opposite team heavily as he took wickets of the major players like Assad Vala (6), Charles Amini (17) and Chad Soper (1), limiting their team to a meagre 78 runs.

The right-armed bowler now officially holds the record for the most economical 4-overed bowling in the history of T20I as well as the best overall bowling in the T20 World Cup. This feat was much needed considering the context of a highly competitive tournament like the T20 World Cup.

Ferguson's Magic to sign off T20 World Cup 2024

Ferguson’s spectacular wicket spree helped New Zealand dismantle the PNG batting. Chasing the target after being asked to bat first, PNG lost the wickets consistently. The efforts of PNG to stay in the game rested upon the top scorer Charles Amini who scored 17 runs, however, they were unable to build any lasting partnerships.

Apart from Ferguson, New Zealand bowlers Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi also contributed by securing two wickets each, ensuring that the PNG was bowled out for an easily achievable chase of 79 runs. Ferguson’s remarkable performance not only brought forward his undeniable skills but also pointed at the strong bowlers in the New Zealand team.
