Australian pacer Megan Schutt made history on October 5th, 2024, by becoming the joint-highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20 Internationals (WT20Is). Schutt achieved this milestone in the opening match of the T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka Women, delivering a standout performance with figures of 3/12. Her tally of 43 wickets in T20 World Cups places her level with South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail, both holding the top spot for the most wickets in the tournament.
Australia Dominate Sri Lanka in Sharjah
Sri Lanka Women, opting to bat first after winning the toss, were immediately put under pressure by Schutt, who opened with a maiden over. Australia maintained a stranglehold throughout the innings, picking up wickets at regular intervals and choking Sri Lanka’s scoring. Nilakshika de Silva top-scored with a slow-paced 29 off 40 balls, but Sri Lanka could only manage a modest total in their 20 overs.
Megan Schutt was instrumental in Australia’s bowling effort, finishing with 3/12 from her 4 overs. Sri Lanka Women, still unable to cross the 100-run mark in the tournament, are facing a disappointing campaign so far.
