Veteran Pacer Mohammed Shami is likely to return to the Indian Cricket team for the white-ball ODI series against England. Reports also spill beans on his anticipated contention for the 2025 Champions Trophy as well.
Recent reports speculate that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is monitoring the renowned pacer’s fitness journey for plotting him into the Champions Trophy. As cricket fans eagerly await Shami's return, many are also closely following the live cricket betting odds and predictions to assess his potential performance and influence on the upcoming matches.
Shami Not been in Cricket Lineup since 2023 World Cup
After a long break, finally, some good news rolled out for the ‘Shami’ fans as the board hints at his entry back into the Indian Cricket team. Further insights state:
The Indian pacer will get into live cricket action in the upcoming ODI White-ball series Vs England and even in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. A report from Cricbuzz sparked the news around.
Senior Indian Pacer and a popular face of the Indian Cricket playing XI, Mohammed Shami, was sidelined since the 2023 World Cup Final held in November.
The decision was taken reportedly due to his right heel surgery, making him rest for a few months but has resumed white-ball cricket play in a few weeks.
Shami’s Fitness Closely Monitored before Returning to International Cricket
Shami’s spot in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 is awaited until the clearance from BCCI and the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Reports state:
Mohammed Shami is under the scrutiny of the NCA’s medical team, who are putting their best foot forward to make him undergo a rigorous rehabilitation process.
Post-surgery of his right heel, the veteran Indian Pacer is having a healthy recovery apart from the knee swelling hindering the process. It was probably why he was aloof from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Indian Cricket Selectors Have a Close Eye on Shami’s Comeback
Fans were happy to watch the recent game of Mohammed Shami in Bengal for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. NCA will take a final call based on Shami’s performance in knockouts here.
Selectors have a close watch on Shami’s performance in the scheduled pre-quarterfinals in Baroda against Haryana. The game will be a crucial one as it hints at Mohammed Shami’s assessment to ensure he’s ready for the England series.
Further, BCCI confirmed the sources that Shami is under complete supervision from the NCA Physios, who are present with him at all domestic venues. The news was confirmed when Shami played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in Rajkot.
Recently, an NCA Physio was also spotted overseeing both Hardik Pandya and Shami in Hyderabad.
Akash Deep Might be Out of England ODI’s
On the contrary, Indian Pacer Akash Deep, who performed in the Indian Squad during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, might not show up in the white-ball series. He missed the 5th Test at SCG for back pain issues and will stay away for a month.
Early reports from Indian Pacer Shami’s recent matches state that his bowling line has no effect from the injury, and his body language depicts ‘Optimism’ for International play.
