Ben Sears was just an extra player during the T20 World Cup last year. He recently got limelight with his comeback to the Super Smash, followed by an injury, and is now setting the stage for the ODI debut. Ben has played one test and 17 T20Is to date.
O’Rouke had been performing outstandingly in his international career across all formats and primarily in Test games. New Zealand’s Cricket team’s head coach, Gary Stead, counts on his bowling pace and length in the air as a decisive factor for the Karachi tri-series.

- The head coach of the NZ Cricket team mentioned being dicy about Ben’s name in the Champions Trophy team but had an eye on his growth chart.
- Further, he mentioned that grounds in Pakistan are favourable for bowlers with pure speed, and Sears holds the potential to be a hurdle for the opposite team in that case. So, making him a part of the squad was the right call.
- Stead shows confidence match finesse in Ben Sears and improved performance after getting back from injury. The team has seen his contribution as a part of Test squads and is confident about his performance when required.

Sources reveal that the NZ head Coach announced with a heavy heart that Jacob Duffy has to be kept away from the Champions Trophy squad despite his incredible innings in the white-ball international tournament.
The playing team at the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will also participate in the ODI tri-series held in Pakistan, which will also feature South Africa.
Ferugson, Williamson and Conway Jammed with T20 Cricket Leagues
- Duffy might play in the ODI tri-series at Karachi if Ferugson can’t make it for the game due to ILT20 commitments.
- The same is the scene with Kane Williamson and Devon Conway, who are logjammed at SA20.
- SA20 Championship Finals are to be held on February 8th followed by the IL20 Decider match the next day.
- New Zealand will be playing against Pakistan on February 8th as their first game of the tri-series and against South Africa on February 10th.
- The NZ squad will also have a warm-up match played against Afghanistan on February 16.
