New Zealand vs England 1st Test - Summary
The first Test witnessed some fabulous performances from both teams. England won the toss and decided to bowl first. This gave an advantage to the hosts in the 1st inning.
The first Test also marked the return of Kane Williamson and he made a strong comeback to the team. Williamson missed out his century by 7 runs but played a crucial role from the top order.
Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir dominated the bowling attack from England’s side. The duo picked up crucial wickets of Tom Latham, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell in the 1st inning.
When it came to England’s batting unit, it was a slow start. The top order of English squad including Joe Root departed early and gave the undue pressure to the middle order of the team. Harry Brook came out as the saviour for the team in the middle order with Ollie Pope and skipper Ben Stokes.
The Kiwi bowling unit started on a positive note by getting rid of the top order of the opposition but soon lost their rhythm and came out weak at a later stage. Matt Henry was the leading wicket-taker in the 1st inning for the Kiwis.
