PAK vs WI 2nd Test - Recap from the 1st Test

In the first Test, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. The team was under the leadership of Shan Masood and his confidence in the batting lineup led him to make the decision.

1st Inning

A poor start from the top order led the team under pressure on Day 1 in the 1st inning. Skipper and opening batter Shan Masood was gone for a small score of 11 off 29 balls at a strike rate of 37.93.

The hosts lost their first 4 wickets at a score of 46 runs and that was a troubling sign for the team. In the middle order, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan came out as the saviours of the team and handled the situation maturely.

For West Indies, Jayden Seals and Jomel Warrican came out as the team's leading wicket-takers. Kevin Sinclair was also the top contributor. Two spinners getting success clearly means that the pitch favours the spin attack.

West Indies was below average with their batting unit. As soon as their top order fell, the rest of the batting unit was destroyed like a house of cards. The whole team was back to the pavilion for a score of 137 runs.

For Pakistan, Sajid Khan and Noman Ali showcased their magic. The spin duo made full use of the pitch and dominated the bowling attack in every spell.

2nd Inning

Pakistan was already leading the game all thanks to their bowling unit. They had an advantage of 93 runs in the 2nd inning. It is because of the same reason, the team was not under pressure.

Their top order started on a good note with skipper Shan Masood and Mohamaad Huraira starting the game by giving the team a stable start. However, once their partnership was broken, their middle order came out as a major weak point and failed to build a solid partnership.

The experienced spinner of the West Indies, Jomel Warrican came out as the leading wicket-taker and scalped 7 wickets in the game. Gudakesh Motie contributed with a single wicket in the game.

It was low-score from the host and hence the chase looked easy for the visitors. However, their top order completely failed to make an impact in the game. Alick Athanaze was the top-scorer in the game but he alone couldn't help West Indies to score a win.

PAK vs WI 2nd Test - What To Expect?

Pakistan clearly has an advantage going into the 2nd Test. However, one threat is looming on the team. The hosts are too much dependent on their spin attack to win the match. A better performance can be expected from their batting unit where senior players like Babar Azam, Shan Masood, and Mohammad Rizwan can be expected to build strong partnerships.

West Indies came out as a weaker side in 2 aspects. They didn't have a strong pin attack. Jomel Warrican can be a trump card in the 2nd Test but he needs support from other bowlers as well. Like hosts, West Indies batters need to perform better than their previous outing to make sure they don’t loose out on the series.
