PBKS Team Preview - Can PBKS win Maiden IPL title

Punjab Kings is one of the low-key squads since the inception of the Indian Premier League. They have reached the final fixture once in 2014 but failed to lift the trophy. Punjab was also unfortunate in 2008 as they reached the semi-final stage but were eliminated.
For IPL 2025, Punjab Kings have done some major changes in the squad. Before the IPL mega auctions took place, Punjab Kings only retained two of their players from the previous edition of the league. Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh were the only two retained players.
Almost the whole Punjab Kings squad has been changed. Shreyas Iyer came out as the costliest player for the team with a price tag of INR 26.75 Crore. The Indian T20 specialist pacer Arshdeep Singh was bought by the franchise using the RTM rule for a price tag of INR 18 Crore.
IPL 2025 will also mark the homecoming for Glenn Maxwell. Australia’s middle order batter was bought by the franchise for INR 4.20 Crore. Punjab Kings have also bought IPL spin topper - Yuzvendra Chahal to strengthen their spin attack for 18 Crore.
Marco Jansen (Rs. 7 crore), Josh Inglis (Rs. 2.60 crore), Lockie Ferguson (Rs. 2 crore), and Azmatullah Omarzai (Rs. 2.40 crore) are the key overseas players who will be seen playing for the franchise. Nehal Wadhera (Rs. 4.20 crore), Harpreet Brar (Rs. 1.50 crore), Vishnu Vinod (Rs. 95 lakh), Vijaykumar Vyshak (Rs. 1.80 crore), and Yash Thakur (Rs. 1.60 crore) will be the domestic talent who will be part of the team in IPL 2025.
Punjab Kings finished at the 9th spot in the league last year. It was a disappointing show as the team won 5 fixtures but ended up losing on 9 matches. Their net run rate stood at -0.353.
The team management will expect to have a better show this year. They have a good lineup of overseas and domestic players who can make a huge impact in tough situations for the team.

Punjab Kings - Squad Strength
The purchase of Shreyas Iyer and making him the captain of the team is the biggest advantage for the team. He is an IPL winner skipper who won the trophy last year with Kolkata Knight Riders. Since his return to the Indian squad, Shreyas Iyer has shown positive signs and he can handle the pressure in tough situations.

Including Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings has one of the most ferocious batting lineups in the league. They have Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Nehal Wadhera, Vishnu Vinod, Prabhsimran Singh, and Josh Inglis in the lineup. This means that Punjab Kings not only carry a quality batting lineup but also carry a good depth in their batting lineup.

Their bowling lineup also looks solid. Arshdeep Singh, who is one of the best T20 format bowlers, will be combined with Marco Jansen, Kuldeep Sen, Aaron Hardie, Yash Thakur, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Lockie Ferguson. If these big names perform at their best, there won’t be any opposition who can score a big number against PBKS.

PBKS - Impact Player
For Punjab Kings, Vyshak Vijakumar and Vishnu Vinod can be used as the impact players. Vyshak Vijakumar is a pace bowler who has good experience of the Indian Premier League. He can be used during the middle overs and if he turns out to be effective, Punjab Kings will be in huge benefit.
On the batting front, Vishnu Vinod’s talent will come handy. Has a good experience of playing T20 format in India’s domestic competitions and can score quick boundaries and play the role of a finisher.
Punjab Kings - Weakness
Punjab Kings have bought Yuzvendra Chahal during the mega auctions. However, they completely missed out on buying one or two more spin options. They have also missed out on buying a back up option for Chahal in case he fails to deliver. Their spin department has a major void and in this situation, the whole pressure goes on the shoulders of Yuzvendra Chahal.
