Rohit Sharma: India need to seriously look at their batting against spin
The Indian cricket team suffered an embarrassing defeat against Sri Lanka in the third ODI match at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday. With this defeat, the visitors lost the 3-match ODI series by 2-0. Despite losing six players to injury during the series, the hosts were dominant against the star-studded Indian side, courtesy of their spinners.
Indian batters, who are considered one of the best players of spin, lost 27 wickets in the series, which is the most by any team in a bilateral ODI series. After the loss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opened up about the team’s struggle against Sri Lankan spinners and admitted that it is something that the team will look at seriously.
"I don't think it's a concern. But it's something we need to look at seriously, into our individual game plans. We were definitely put under pressure throughout the series. We need to look into it, do something differently, need to talk about it and come back with different plans", Rohit Sharma said after the loss.
“Not end of the world" - Rohit Sharma After Series Loss
While the Indian skipper admitted that the team will look into the mistakes it made in the games, he said the result is not a big concern for the side. “These things happen, series lost is not the end of the world, you will lose an odd series here and there but it is about how you come back after the loss," Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Notably, after a thrilling tie in the first ODI, Team India suffered two back-to-back defeats, handing the hosts a dominating series win. In both matches, the visitors struggled to chase down the target. While they suffered a 32-run defeat in the second ODI, the third ODI saw the Indian team losing by 110 runs in a chase of 249.
