Santner finishes tense chase as New Zealand seal ODI series 3-1

New Zealand beat West Indies by 1 wicket in a tense fourth ODI in Barbados on Sunday to clinch the series with a game to spare.
Chasing 189, New Zealand reached 189/9 in 44.1 overs after a late scramble. Mitchell Santner, the New Zealand captain, hit the winning runs from the first ball of the 45th over and finished 34 not out.
Santner was dropped with three runs needed and one wicket in hand, while last batter Jayden Lennox survived reviews for caught behind and lbw.
West Indies had earlier been bowled out for 188 in 44.4 overs after choosing to bat first at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. They slipped to 58-3 and 81-6 before Amir Jangoo and Gudakesh Motie steadied the innings. Jangoo made 50 off 71 balls with four boundaries, while Motie made 37.
New Zealand also lost early wickets in the chase, falling to 46/3. Mark Chapman played the key innings, he made 53 off 53 balls and Source B crediting him with 80. Michael Bracewell joined him in a brisk stand, and New Zealand were later dragged into a tight finish as the West Indies bowlers fought back.
Matthew Fisher took 3-40, his first ODI wickets for New Zealand, the final runs came in the 45th over, while Santner completed the chase from the first ball of the next over.
West Indies had hoped to honour Garry Sobers in his home town, Bridgetown. Both teams wore black armbands, flags flew at half staff and a minute of silence was observed before play began.
