South Africa has recalled all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy for their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh in October. Muthusamy, a left-arm orthodox spinner, returns to the Test squad after last playing in March 2023. He is part of a three-man spin attack alongside Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt. In his first-class career, Muthusamy has amassed nearly 5,000 runs at an average of 30.41, alongside 247 wickets.
The pace attack will be led by Kagiso Rabada, with Nandre Burger, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder also included. Notably, Lungi Ngidi and Migael Pretorius have been left out of the squad, having featured in South Africa's previous Test series against the West Indies in July-August.
Conrad Confident of South Africa’s Versatility
South Africa's head coach, Shukri Conrad, expressed confidence in the squad’s versatility and highlighted the importance of the spin options, given Bangladesh's conditions.
"I want to thank both Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board for ensuring the series goes ahead. Bangladesh is always a challenging place to tour, and they have become a strong side at home. We’ve selected a squad tailored to the conditions we expect to face," Conrad said.
He also praised the potential of Muthusamy, saying, "We have three frontline spinners, and each of them has the ability to make a difference when called upon. This is a great opportunity for Senuran to make an impact with both bat and ball, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the team."
South Africa’s tour of Bangladesh begins on October 21 in Dhaka, with the second Test scheduled to take place in Chattogram from November 2. The cricket betting experts are already rooting for this test series to be a challenging once for both the sides.
