South Africa Announces Squad for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024
Cricket South Africa has announced their women’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. United Arab Emirates is hosting the tournament and the first fixture is scheduled to take place on 3rd October 2024.
The 25-year-old Laura Wolvaardt has been named the captain of the group. It will be her first time leading the team. She made her debut for the nation in 2016 in T20 format against Ireland.
South Africa was the host nation in the previous edition of the tournament. They reached the final fixture as well but failed to register a win against the dominating Australian squad in the final game.
This year, the selection committee has made minor changes in the squad and has a mixture of fresh and experienced faces in the team.

Travelling reserve: Miané Smit
Suné Luus - the former skipper of South Africa, is a key member of the team. She led the team in the previous edition successfully but now she will be required to focus on her individual performance.
Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon, Nadine De Klerk, Tazmin Brits, Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba are some of the experienced names who will be travelling to UAE with the team.
Cricket South Africa has made a deliberate choice to select season players. Seshnie Naidu is the only uncapped player who is named in the team as a new selection.
South Africa did well in the previous edition of the tournament. It is because of their recent performance, that the top bookmakers in India predict a good campaign for the team.

South Africa will begin their ICC T20 World Cup campaign on 4th October against West Indies. They are part of Group B and their primary rivals are England, West Indies, and Bangladesh.
