The Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Test series has begun and in the first Test, the hosts have come out as the winners. It was a close fixture where both teams went shoulder-to-shoulder in both innings.
After the defeat, the Kiwi skipper appreciated the efforts of 24-year-old Rachin Ravindra. Rachin missed out on his century in the 2nd inning by 8 runs but due to his fabulous innings, New Zealand came close to winning the fixture.
"I know he is a magnificent player. He played here for the first time. He must be very, very excited about it. Yeah, we've been excited for a while. We saw glimpses back in New Zealand of his abilities and what he's got. He's got a lot of attributes that set him up for a lot of success at this level. We've seen that in the short sample size," said Southee after the loss.
Rachin was playing his 8th Test for New Zealand against Sri Lanka. Since the start he looked calm and composed and in the first inning, he scored 39 off 48 balls at a strike rate of 81.25.
