Travis Head has been honored with his first-ever Allan Border Medal at the 2025 Australian Cricket Awards. The dynamic batter accumulated a total of 208 votes, surpassing Josh Hazlewood by 50 votes and Pat Cummins by 61. His exceptional performances across all three formats of the game played a crucial role in securing this prestigious recognition.
A Stellar Year for Head
Over the past year, Head has been a consistent performer, amassing 1,427 runs across formats, including four centuries. His contributions in both Test and limited-overs cricket made him a standout player for Australia. In addition to winning the Allan Border Medal, Head was also named the Men's ODI Player of the Year, edging out wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey.
Other Major Award Winners
While Head stole the limelight, other Australian cricketers also received significant honors. Josh Hazlewood was awarded the Shane Warne Test Player of the Year title for his outstanding performances with the ball. In the women’s category, Annabel Sutherland claimed her maiden Belinda Clark Award. The talented all-rounder had a phenomenal year, scoring 798 runs at an average of 46.94 and taking 34 wickets. Her brilliant performances included a century in the one-off Ashes Test against England and a remarkable 210-run knock against South Africa in a Test match at the end of last season.
Other standout performers in women’s cricket were Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney. Gardner was named the Women’s ODI Player of the Year for her all-round contributions, having scored 385 runs and taken 23 wickets during the voting period. Mooney, known for her consistency in T20Is, secured the Women’s T20I Player of the Year award after scoring 618 runs at an average of 47.53 with a striking rate of 129.83.
BBL and WBBL Standout Players
The Big Bash League (BBL) also had its share of winners, with Glenn Maxwell and Cooper Connolly being jointly named the BBL Players of the Tournament. Maxwell’s explosive batting and all-round capabilities, along with Connolly’s emerging brilliance, made them worthy recipients of the award.
In the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Ellyse Perry and Jess Jonassen were joint winners of the WBBL Player of the Tournament award. Perry’s experience and all-round skills, coupled with Jonassen’s impactful performances, played vital roles in their respective teams' successes.
