Virat Kohli & Gautam Gambhir Open up on the Upcoming Test Season for India

A candid conversation between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir has been released by BCCI at bcci.tv The stars of Indian cricket were seen discussing the future of India's team in the red-ball format.

This candid discussion involved discussing topics from Virat’s captaincy after Dhoni’s resignation to how the team has flared up in recent red-ball fixtures.

"The thing that excited me about Test cricket and when I was coming up as captain was the challenge. We were transitioning when you guys had made way for a youngster team and Mahi bhai left Test captaincy. I was 25, so for me, it was like 'I am here with a bunch of 24-25 year-old guys. How do we become household names?” said Kohli regarding the time when he took captaincy from MS Dhoni.

Gautam Gambhir appreciated Kohli’s ability to accept the challenge and turn things around for the team.

"I can understand what you might have gone through. A 24-25 year-old boy taking up Test captaincy and then what you did brilliantly was that you had a really strong bowling unit. Test matches are won by taking 20 wickets. Till the time you don't have a strong bowling line-up, you won't [win]. And that is what made you the most successful Test captain in the country," said Gambhir.

Virat Kohli mentioned that it is always easy to have strong bettors in the team. However, he turned things around by getting the team a brilliant bowling unit and making them the match-winners.

India’s Reliable Pace Unit

During the conversation, India’s head coach highlighted Kohli’s decision to bring in a lethal combination of pace bowlers. During Virat’s captaincy, pacers like Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Umesh Yadav were the key bowlers.

“What you did brilliantly was build a really strong bowling unit. In Test cricket, until you have a lineup capable of taking 20 wickets, you can’t win consistently,” said Gautam Gambhir during the conversation.

Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli also cleared the air regarding their past arguments in the interview.

India’s Future in Test Cricket

Team India has gone through some major changes in recent times when it comes to the red-ball format. However, India has been part of two consecutive finals of the World Test Championship.

Recently, India defeated Bangladesh in the 1st Test. Now, Rohit Sharma and company are left with 9 Test fixtures. Their upcoming matches will be against New Zealand and Australia.

Team India needs 7 more wins in the red-ball format to make sure they are part of the 3rd consecutive WTC finals. This is an opportunity for Team India to win the WTC trophy for the first time.

Online betting apps will have the odds updated for all the series for Team India.
