The upcoming Women’s Weber Big Bash League 2024 (WBBL) is fast approaching with sweeping changes and announcements over the horizon. One major news item that made the headlines recently was Suzie Bates’ inclusion in the Hobart Hurricanes squad for the upcoming WBBL season. For the first time in the history of WBBL, we will be seeing the highly experienced and prosperous Kiwi batter in action for Hobart Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes’ manager was thrilled with the decision to include Bates along with Chloe Tryon and Lizelle Lee. She will come in place of England batter Danni Wyatt who along with the rest of the English contingent will fly to South Africa to play a bilateral limited-overs series starting on November 17. Bates will feature for the Hurricanes in their last three league games plus the finals provided they make it to that stage.
More on Suzie Bates
Bates, who is now aged 37 has been an active performer in this tournament with close to 100 games under helt belt. The Kiwi batters previously featured for franchises such as Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, and Perth Scorchers across eight seasons. Despite being one of the most prolific run-getters in the WBBL, Suzie was initially not picked in this year’s WBBL draft. She maintains a healthy average of around 26 and has one century and 11 half-century scores to her name.
Beams, who happens to be the current team manager for Hobart Hurricanes, highlighted her importance and what she brings to the table in the absence of someone like Danni Wyatt. With around 167 T20Is and over 4000 runs, coupled with 17 appearances in the Hundred Women's Competition, Suzie brings with her a lot of rich experience which could come in handy and prove pivotal for Hurricanes’ success this season. Cricket betting experts will be rooting to bet on Suzie Bates and the Hurricanes this season.
