Every team in the IPL 2025 competition has shuffled themselves due to the mega auctions held in November 2024 in Jeddah. They will take time to find the right combination of players and chemistry to dominate the league. It will be interesting to see how new players adapt themselves in the first few weeks of the league.

As the new season of IPL is on the horizon, all the franchises will be giving themselves a fresh start. In the previous edition of the league, Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the point table. However, this year, a new squad is expected to go through a nightmare.

IPL 2025 - Weakness of Each Team

Mumbai Indians

Even before the start of the league, Mumbai Indians received a major blow as their key pacer - Jasprit Bumrah, will miss out on the initial fixtures. During these initial fixtures, Mumbai Indians are expected to suffer during the death overs. Deepak Chahar is their next-best option to bowl the deathovers. Hence, Mumbai Indians have a major weakness in their bowling unit even if Jasprit Bumrah joined the squad. The team management will be majorly dependent on Bumrah for wickets and for yorkers during the death overs. 

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings are 5-time IPL champions but they have missed out on keeping a strong bowling option for IPL 2025. It looks like the whole team will be dependent on Matheesha Pathirana for wickets as he is their seasoned player. However, Nathan Ellis, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Gurjapneet Singh are other pace options in the team but they are not reliable and might fail under pressure.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The defending champions - Kolkata Knight Riders did a fine job by retaining their core players except for Shreyas Iyer. However, the void of Shreyas Iyer at numbers 3 and 4 remains their major weakness. They also don’t have a reliable combination for top-order batting. Quinton de Kock is not in a good form when it comes to IPL and hence the team will again rely on Sunil Narine to be the star performer.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore had a very poor start to the IPL 2025 mega auctions. They failed to bid for the right player and hence the team management was seen bidding under pressure. Bangalore has the services of Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Jitesh Sharma and Tim David in the middle order. However, out of these 4, Bethel is new and the rest of the 3 batters have not made an impact in the last few seasons of the league.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad has one of the strongest batting unit with some of the best T20 batters. They also have a strong lineup of bowlers for the league. However, the team management has a major void for a player who can play the role of a finisher or a death-over scorer. Sachin Baby is the only option they are left with to play at number 7 and if he fails, the team has no backup player.

Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants has made some major changes in the team. However, they are still left with a big weakness in their batting unit. Except for skipper Rishabh Pant, Lucknow Super Giants don’t have a reliable name in their batting unit that can play match-winning innings. The team also has their struggles in the pace unit. They have Mayank Yadav, who is out of action because of his injury and won’t be part of the team in initial matches. In his absence, the team has no trustworthy pacer who can be a consistent performer.

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans have roped in Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Washington Sundar and Nishant Sindhu in their spin unit. However, the team management has completely missed out on signing a reliable pace bowler in the team. Mohammad Siraj is the only option when it comes to the pace attack. However, Siraj has not performed as per the expectations in IPL and in international cricket.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have received devastating news as Harry Brook has withdrawn from the league. His absence has created a hole in the batting unit of Delhi Capitals. To fill in this hole, Delhi will be majorly dependent on Tristian Stubbs and skipper Axar Patel to score runs. Karun Nair can be the third middle-order batter who can be valuable for the team. However, at number Harry Brook was the best option for the franchise.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have never won the league titles and hence they are one of the most vulnerable teams in the league. The team management has signed former KKR and trophy-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer. However, Punjab Kings rely on a young bowling unit for wickets. In the experienced bowlers, they only have Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, and Marco Jansen. Out of the three, Chahal can be a trump card for the team in IPL 2025.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals are expected to struggle in the upcoming season of IPL with the absence of an experienced all-rounder. In order to solve this problem, Rajasthan Royals will be mostly dependent on the Impact player role. Except for Riyan Parag, the Royals don’t carry any weightage in the all-rounder segment.
