Will IPL 2025 Open the Door For Ishan Kishan’s Redemption In Team India?

Indian Premier League is a door for young Indian cricketers to enter the team India squad if they perform exceptionally well. Ishan Kishan, India’s young star batter, is hoping to do the same in IPL 2025.

Ishan Kishan was last seen in a blue jersey in November 2023 and in the last 12 months, Kishan has completely failed to display his talent in every tournament in domestic cricket. He was last seen with team India during the tour to South Africa but the player was called back from the tour because of disciplinary issues.

Since then, Ishan has been part of IPL 2024 and other domestic tournaments but has failed to knock on the doors of BCCI and the selection committee. As IPL 2025 comes closer, Ishan Kishan will be hoping for redemption while playing for a new team - Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The former Mumbai Indians player was released by the team's management after his debacle in the previous season of IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad came forward and bought Ishan Kishan for a price tag of INR 11.40 Crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad was in a close bidding war with Punjab Kings but the shocker was that Mumbai Indians failed to retain their loyal top-order batsman.

Mumbai Indians already retained their 5 core players - Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma. According to the RTM rule, if a franchise has already retained its 5 players, it can’t retain another player from the mega auctions.

However, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the bid and Ishan Kishan will be expected to be used as a top-order batter with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. It is an opportunity for Ishan to learn and become a much more ferocious batter and make his comeback to team India. Cricket betting in India will also keep a close eye on Ishan Kishan for the 18th edition of IPL.

Ishan Kishan - Is There a Space for Him In Test and ODI Format?

Team India recently won their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after 12 years of drought. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, men in blue had the best combination of players who were settled enough to handle the pressure at the big stage.

Ishan Kishan can’t compete with Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli at the top order. At number 4, Shreyas Iyer has confirmed his space by playing winning knocks in the tournament. Even though he was part of India’s ODI World Cup squad, Ishan has lost every opportunity to make a comeback in the ODI format for now.

In the red-ball format, team India will be playing against England and Ishan Kishan will be competing against Yashaswi Jaiswal, Shubhman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli at the top order. In the middle order, his competitors will be Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.

Considering the space crunch in Test cricket and the factor of experience, Ishan Kishan can’t be seen in the red-ball format in the upcoming days.

Ishan Kishan - T20i Cricket Via IPL 2025

The only hope for Ishan Kishan now is to perform exceptionally well and make it to the T20 international squad. His competition in the shortest format of the game will be Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma. All three of the players are in good form in the T20 international cricket.

In the last 2 seasons of the Indian Premier League, the stars of Ishan Kishan have been declining. His average has seen a sudden dip and in IPL 2024, Kishan was seen losing his wicket easily.

For IPL 2025, Ishan Kishan needs to focus on building innings with well-settled Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. The two players played exceptionally in the previous season and can help Ishan Kishan play his natural game in IPL 2025.
