WPL 2025: Players Who Could Claim the Purple Cap

In just two seasons, the Women’s Premier League has become the centre stage of Women’s cricket in the country. Women cricketers in India and across the globe are now ready to experience the third season of the league.

WPL 2025 will begin the first fixture scheduled to take place on 14th February between Gujarat Giants and the defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore. The first fixture will take place at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium.

3) Shreyanka Patil - Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Purple Cap winner from the last edition of the league, Shreyanka Patil, is also a contender for the award this year. She missed out on the WBBL 2024 season but has been an active player in the T20 international circuit. WPL 2023-24 was her best performance but she is expected to go beyond that in the upcoming season of the league.

4) Amelia Kerr - Mumbai Indians

New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr is making her appearance in the league after missing out on the previous edition. She wanted to focus on her international career and the result was visible during the T20 International World Cup in 2024. Amelia Kerr was the leading wicket-taker in the T20i World Cup last year and has done exceptionally well in recent times.

WPL 2025 - Other Contenders for the Purple Cap

With the names mentioned above, Sophie Molineux will be another bowler who will be in the spotlight this year. She was the third-highest wicket-taker in the league last year with 12 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of 7.31. In WBBL 2024, Sophie Molineux scalped 16 wickets in 7 matches at an economy of 7.14. Marizanne Kapp is another that is doing rounds among cricket fans. The Delhi Capitals bowlers were the 4th highest wicket-taker in the previous edition of the league but her WBBL 2024 season was an average and it didn't come out as expected.
