After a mixed pre-season journey where they had 2 win and 2 defeats in 4 matches the Indiana Pacers began their 2024-25 NBA season with a convincing 115-109 win over the Detroit Pistons and were hopeful that the win would set them up for a great start to this season as they look to go a step further this year and reach the NBA Finals.
But as the season has progressed into its first week the early dawn that they had seems to be a fake one as in their next few fixtures the Pacers have been somewhat underwhelming and have lost back-to-back games that have left them feeling quite sour in their mouths.
A crushing loss at the hands of the New York Knicks in their second game where they lost by a scoreline of 123-98 saw them have a horrible reality check as they only shot 3-30 from the three-point line and were abysmal in their scoring attempts at the Madison Square Garden.
Marquee player Tyrese Haliburton had a night to forget himself as the guard had 15 attempts at the basket during his 26 minutes on the court and managed to have a grand total of zero points which was an absolute embarrassment to say the least. Starters Andrew Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith were of no help either as they duo scored 2 and 4 points respectively while the standout performer for the Pacers came off the bench in Benedict Mathurin as he scored 20 points in 24 minutes for the Indiana team.
While their performances against the Philadelphia 76ers in their next game did get better with Haliburton scoring 22 points and the match going into overtime but an inspired Tyrese Maxey performance in added time sealed two consecutive defeats for the Pacers who boast a record that screams a team who is bound to get eliminated in the first round.
A replay of the 2023-24 Eastern Conference Finals the two sides were one of the most entertaining sides to watch during the playoffs last season and while the Celtics did sweep them in a rout of a Final their contrasting forms this season will be an added factor during the tie as the two meet for the first during the 2024-25 regular season.
While the Pacers have lost against all sides that qualified for last season’s playoffs the Celtics on the other hand are still unbeaten and have managed to average a whopping 126 points per game so far which puts them at the top of the Eastern Conference at the time of writing.
Stars Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White have started the season off strong and while they have been missing their defensive juggernaut in Kristaps Porzingis their back court attack has so far nullified that absence as their relentless attack has been a highlight of their season so far.
Tatum who will be looking to make up for the lost playing time during his stint on the bench during team USA’s gold medal rally in this year’s Olympics has been on fire so far as his MVP ambitions have him third on the list for most individual points this season as he averages 33-points while also collecting 6.3 rebounds and dishing out 6.0 assists per game so far.
Apart from the former Duke alumni’s impressive showing, his teammates in Jaylen Brown and Derrick White have been instrumental in their team’s success as the duo have averaged 24.7 and 20.0 points respectively with the former even having 8.3 rebounds to his name and leading the statistics for his team.

With both teams meeting for the first time since their Eastern Conference Finals match up earlier this year it will be interesting to see how the two fare against one another this season especially after the humiliating loss that the Pacers suffered with a clean sweep in a conference Final.
While all of their four losses weren’t by a huge margin the fact that they were unable to get a single game to their name will be something that the Pacers will want to rectify this season and for that they will have to better their three-point shooting especially with Pritchard and the Celtics having a great time from across the arc this season. Bettors should have many favorable odds during the match up and should expect a high scoring game as both teams will enter the match hoping to have a great offensive display.
Player Name | Points | Rebounds | Assists | Steals/Blocks |
---|---|---|---|---|
Jayson Tatum | 28.5 | 6.8 | 5.5 | 1.5/0.8 |
Jaylen Brown | 26.0 | 7.8 | 3.3 | 1.5/0.0 |
Pascal Siakam | 18.5 | 6.8 | 5.3 | 1.0/0.3 |
Myles Turner | 15.0 | 6.3 | 1.8 | 1.0/2.0 |
The Boston Celtics should be the favorites for this match and rightly so as the defending NBA champions have been the team to beat this season and will provide a vengeful Indiana team with headaches from across all avenues. While the home support will be a big factor for the Pacers the Celtics have shown that the can nullify any home support across the past season or so and should be able to silence the Pacers crowd come Wednesday.
