The Utah Jazz were steamrolled 97-137 Friday night by the Minnesota Timberwolves, losing their second Group Stage game in NBA Cup play this season. Utah falls to 3-6 for the season, finding itself at the bottom of the Northwest Division.
On a night when none of the Jazz starters touched 20 points, Keyonte George top scored for Utah, finishing with 18 points. Lauri Markkanen and Ace Bailey each had 12 points. The Jazz lost the game in the first quarter itself going down by 28 points. From then on, there was no way back for Utah as the Wolves pressed home their advantage. The Jazz shot a dismal 37.2% from the field. They also gave up 60 points in the paint and were outrebounded 40-52.
Utah is averaging 112.1 PPG for the 2025-26 regular season, going 43.0% from the floor. The Jazz average 47.9 RPG (6th in the NBA) and 27.2 APG (10th in the NBA). On the defensive end of the court, they have been averaging 7.6 SPG and 3.4 BPG.
Utah lost 3 of 4 meetings last season, conceding 127.3 points per game through those three losses. Having already been beaten badly in the first matchup of this season, the Jazz must surely be carrying the scars of Friday night as they get ready for the rematch at Delta Center.
With Anthony Edwards returning to the court, after being sidelined due to a hamstring injury in the early part of the season, the Timberwolves have regained their mojo. His impact was immediate as the T-Wolves ripped the Jazz Friday night 137-97, in what was a one sided contest from the very beginning. With this win, Minnesota improves to 5-4 for the season and is placed 3rd in the Northwest Division.
Anthony Edwards was all over Utah, ending with a game high 37 points in only 26 minutes of action. Jaden McDaniels added 22 points on the night. Julius Randle powered his way to 19 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Minnesota shot an amazing 56.8% from the floor. The Wolves did a great job sharing the basketball, accounting for 32 assists. They constantly breached the lane on offense, finishing with 60 paint points.
The T-Wolves average 118.8 PPG so far this regular season, scoring 50.5% of their baskets. They also have been impressive from 3-point land averaging 41.9% (2nd in the NBA). Minnesota is hauling down 41.6 RPG and has 26.6 APG. Defensively, the Timberwolves have been averaging 7.7 SPG and are ranked 9th in blocked shots with 5.4 a contest. The three wins Minnesota had against the Jazz last season was by an average margin of 20.7 points a game. With Friday night’s win, the Timberwolves have sent a clear message of intent to Utah.

When the ball goes up on Nov 11th at 7:30 AM IST, the Timberwolves would be looking to run the Jazz out of their own gym. High on confidence, Minnesota will be on the prowl searching for easy prey come Monday night. Will Hardy has his work cut out in getting his squad ready for the second iteration of this intense Northwest Division rivalry. A Minnesota win, however, seems to be the most likely outcome.
