Abu Dhabi Knight Riders are gearing up for the opening contest of the 2026 ILT20 Development League. They will take on MI Emirates, whom they outclassed last edition. Abu Dhabi finished in second spot in the last edition. They secured three wins out of five games in the tournament. 

Abu Dhabi lost to Desert Vipers in the semifinals. They fell short of five runs to get a memorable victory. They came close to chasing 202 runs but late collapse hurt their chances. The Knight Riders had a playoff run in the previous edition of the ILT20. They won four games out of ten games. Abu Dhabi defeated Dubai Capitals in the eliminator but suffered a defeat in the qualifier 2 against MI Emirates. Surprisingly, both teams will meet again in the development league. 

Abu Dhabi Knight Riders Development had an impressive player draft which was held on 2nd September. Alishan Sharafu is their best batter, who can anchor the innings and handle the pressure. Wicketkeeper-batter Mayank Choudhary and pace bowler Ibrar Ahmad are also key players in the side. The latter featured for the franchise in ILT20 Season 4. The Knight Riders will have a slight edge over MI Emirates in their opening game.

MI Emirates Development head into the contest on the back of a tough defeat to Desert Vipers in the opening game. MI posted 170 runs on board while batting first, thanks to a half-century from Kona Srikar Bharat. He took 27 balls to complete his half-century. In reply, the Vipers lost two wickets inside the powerplay but finished the chase with five balls left. Ali Naseer and Zahoor Khan bagged two wickets each. 

Meanwhile, MI Emirates had a solid campaign in the main event of ILT20 where they had a run to the finals. Unfortunately, they ended up as a losing side. They lost to the Desert Vipers in the final. On the other hand, their Development side finished fifth in the points table with two wins and three defeats in five games during the 2025 ILT20 Development Tournament. The Emirates missed out on a place in the semifinals. 

KS Bharat could be a player to watch out for. He brings international and IPL experience from India. Bharat scored a half-century in the opening game. He has 1812 runs in the T20s. Muhammad Waseem is also a solid player in the side but he won't be available in the European T20 Premier League. He is the third-highest run-scorer in ILT20 history with 1,241 runs. Muhammad Rohid, Ali Naseer, Aryan Lakra and Zahoor Khan are also strong players in their squad. Zahoor and Naseer picked two wickets each in the last game.
