Australia look for series parity in the 2nd T20I

  • Returning from injury Jos Buttler made a big impact with his fine knock of 68 off 32 balls
  • Alex Hales, who made a comeback to international cricket after 3 years, was top scorer for England
  • Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood are likely to come back for the Canberra T20I

Our prediction is for Australia to win the match

England edged past Australia in a high-scoring thriller at Perth in the 1st T20I. While Nathan Ellis starred with the ball picking up 3 for 20 in his spell for Australia, the hosts surely missed their star bowlers.

On a batting-friendly surface, it was always going to be a high-scoring contest between the two teams. However, the likes of Hazlewood and Cummins would have made a difference to the England total.

Australia’s opening duo will be the one to watch out for in this match. Warner is in great touch and so is Green. Stoinis also seems to have found his rhythm in the middle order.

Tim David hasn’t been very consistent though he’s delivered some impactful performances in recent times. For England, Moeen Ali will be in the finisher’s role lower down the order. Woakes, Wood, and Sam Curran would be the key bowlers to watch out for in the England setup.

Australia Preview

After finishing a series win over the West Indies, Australia quickly started their T20I series against England. In view of the T20 World Cup which is less than a couple of weeks away, Australia decided to rest first-choice bowlers from the Perth T20I.

Now, Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, Maxwell, and Zampa will join the Aussies in the 2nd and 3rd T20Is. We can expect a much better bowling performance from the hosts with all of these back in the side. With Matthew Wade coming in at number 7 and delivering consistently, he will be a key batter to watch out for, especially in run chases.

Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, and Aaron Finch are looking in good touch. And a couple of these players are expected to deliver an impactful performance in the 2nd T20I. Maxwell and Stoinis have free reign in the middle order to take the attack to the opposition and play their strokes freely.

Aussies look much stronger than the visitors on paper. We reckon these two sides will be the top contenders for the T20 World Cup for their batting style suits these tracks in Australia. However, the Aussie bowling attack has a considerable edge over England and will give the side an upper hand in the contest.

Australia Predicted Playing XI:

David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Cameron Green, Matthew Wade (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc

England Preview

England have gotten off to a pretty solid start to their tour of Australia. A massive total on the board batting first with their openers playing their strokes freely and confidently.

Buttler's 68 off 32 balls is a great sign for England as the captain leads the batting effort from the front. He has been in great form for the last year scoring runs all around the world including in the IPL. There was a big change in the batting order in the 1st T20I where Stokes and Harry Brook walked in to bat at 3 and 4 while Dawid Malan was sent down at number 7.

The bowling all-rounder Sam Curran was sent ahead of Malan at number 6. England may be trying different positions for their batters ahead of the T20 World Cup.

We expect more such changes in the 2nd T20I as England tried to find the perfect combination. The batting lineup is very deep with Chris Woakes coming at number 8. The batting department looks well balanced with many big-hitting players throughout the lineup.

Reece Topley, Mark Wood, and Chris Woakes will lead the bowling attack for England. Adil Rashid was expensive in the last game but is always the most crucial part of the English attack. The key bowler to watch out for in this attack is Sam Curran who is known for his ability to deliver breakthroughs.

England Predicted Playing XI:

Jos Buttler (c & wk), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, Mark Wood

Weather Conditions

The Manuka Oval in Canberra has a batting-friendly pitch and we can again expect a thrilling contest between bat and ball. The weather is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high of 18 degrees Celsius.

Venue Details

The average 1st innings score at the Manuka Oval is 169 runs. There is extra bounce on offer at this surface. And the bowlers can take advantage of this to get batters in trouble with their pace and bounce.

Toss: To Bowl

While only 3 T20 internationals are played at this venue, two of those matches were won by the team batting second. Whereas, in the 19 domestic T20s, the team batting second won 12 matches. With a deep batting lineup that features many match-winning big-hitters, both teams would back themselves to chase a total at this ground.

Both teams are well-matched and there is little to choose from. A strong overall side with great all-rounders and experienced T20 players who can single-handedly turn the game on its head, both England and Australia are the top contenders for the upcoming T20 World Cup. With their key regulars coming back to the side, Australia seems to have a slight edge in terms of their bowling attack and will be our favourites to win this match.

Our prediction is for Australia to win the match
