It is time for another exciting season of the KSCA Maharaja Trophy! We are all set for a thrilling opening clash of the 2026 season as the Kalyani Bengaluru Blasters square off against the Gulbarga Mystics in the tournament's first match. The encounter will be played at the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground in Mysore, with the action scheduled to start at 2:30 PM IST.
Former champions Bengaluru Blasters did not quite have the best run last season, finishing third overall. On the other hand, the Gulbarga Mystics fell apart in the Eliminator after a promising start to their campaign—ultimately losing to the very same team they are set to face in this opening encounter.
Head-to-Head Record: Over the last four seasons, the Bengaluru Blasters and Gulbarga Mystics have faced each other 12 times. The Blasters hold a slight upper hand with seven victories, while the Mystics have managed to win five matches.

Former champions Bengaluru Blasters won five of the 10 matches they played last season. Interestingly, in their last 10 matches overall, they managed to win six—with all of those victories coming while chasing. This time around, the Blasters' squad features a major reshuffle following the departure of their skipper, Mayank Agarwal, to the Hubli Tigers.
Consequently, the burden of the top order falls on the shoulders of KL Shrijith. Shrijith played for the Hubli Tigers last season, scoring 235 runs in eight matches at an impressive average of 39.17. Alongside him is Rohan Patil, who had a terrific run last season; he smashed 316 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 148, finishing as the leading run-scorer for the Blasters.
Samit Dravid also returns to the Maharaja Trophy. After going unsold last season, Dravid—who played the 2024 season for the Mysore Warriors but managed just 84 runs—comes back on the heels of a strong domestic season to play for his home side.
In the middle order, Praveen Dubey, Shubhang Hegde, and Rohan Naveen will be the key players. All three batters are capable of scoring at a quick rate, maintaining strike rates close to 150.
The bowling department is led by Shubhang Hegde, the tournament's all-time leading wicket-taker with 43 wickets, 16 of which he picked up last season. Alongside him, Vidwath Kaverappa and Darshan MB serve as the two primary pace options. Meanwhile, in the spin department, Shashikumar K and Praveen Dubey will be vital, offering a balanced attack as one turns the ball in while the other takes it away.

The Gulbarga Mystics had all the luck going their way during the league stage, but they suffered a familiar fate in the knockouts, losing to the Bengaluru Blasters in the Eliminator by eight wickets. In that match, the Mystics managed to score just 122 runs and failed to defend the low total. Prior to that, they had won six of their 10 league matches to finish the regular season in third place.
The Mystics made some key tactical changes in the auction this time around, bringing in former Karnataka skipper Manish Pandey to replace Vijaykumar Vyshak, who is now part of the Mysore Warriors.
As a result, the Mystics' batting unit looks much stronger this season, with the likes of Sharath BR (392 runs in 13 matches last season), Macneil Noronha (253 runs in 13 matches last season), and Manish Pandey. These three batters form the core of the top four in their batting lineup. Lochan S Gowda is likely to open; he is also coming off a very successful 2025 season where he accumulated 360 runs in 13 matches.
Dhruv Prabhakar, Thippa Reddy, and Prakhar Chaturvedi form the middle order. While all three batters have a bit of experience from playing over the last two seasons, they are still somewhat "work-in-progress" players. However, they are coming off a really good outing with strong numbers in their recent domestic league matches.
In the bowling department, a lot will rely on veteran Ronit More, who did not have the best of seasons last time around, managing to pick up only five wickets. On the other hand, the Mystics boast last season's top bowler, Kranthi Kumar, who picked up an impressive 26 wickets.
While the Mystics' bowling lineup might look a bit under-par on paper, they are fully capable of delivering in crunch situations; all of them have played enough games over the last couple of seasons and have proven they can step up when it matters most.

Mysore expects cloudy skies this Saturday with a high of 32°C. Humidity will sit around 58%, accompanied by a gentle breeze of 14 km/h. There is only a minor 20% chance of precipitation throughout the day.
The pitch at Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground generally offers a balanced track but as this is the first match of the season expect a hard, good track with a little bit of grass where it will favour the batters. The average 1st innings score in the last 10 Maharaja Trophy matches played at this venue is 163 runs, a score of around 180 could be par for this fixture.
