The Hundred Men’s Competition 2025 is underway. Birmingham Phoenix will kick off their campaign with a home game against Trent Rockets. In the last season, Birmingham Phoenix faced Trent Rockets twice in the league stage and emerged victorious on both occasions.
Despite a few changes to their squad, Birmingham’s batting has only gotten stronger. Joe Clarker has replaced Jamie Smith, while Trent Boult replaces Sean Abbott in the bowling department.
Trent Rockets, on the other hand, have lost a few of their big-hitting players. There is no Rovman Powell and Alex Hales in the batting department, and all four of their all-rounders, including Rashid Khan and Imad Wasim, have been replaced.
Tom Banton will continue to lead the batting line-up, followed by Joe Root and Sam Hain in the middle. David Willey will be leading the Rockets this season, with Lewis Gregory no longer being part of the squad.
Overall, both teams have solid squads with plenty of big-hitters and impactful all-rounders. Rockets have a great variety in the bowling attack, with promising players and will pose a tough challenge to the hosts.
We expect an exciting thriller of a contest at Edgbaston as Phoenix take on the Rockets in the 4th match of The Hundred 2025.

Birmingham Phoenix finished second in the points table in 2024. However, they couldn’t get past the Eliminator match as they lost to Southern Brave in the Super Five. Liam Livingstone takes over the captaincy after Moeen Ali’s exit from the squad this year.
There will be some major changes in the batting order with Ben Duckett finding a new opening partner and Livingstone needing a new number 3 batsman. Anuerin Donald opened the innings for Birmingham on a few occasions, but we reckon Will Smeed would be a better option.
Wicket-keeper batters Joe Clarke and Anuerin Donald are better suited in the middle order. Livingstone holds the key to a big total in this batting lineup. He is known for his big-hitting ability and will be a key finisher for the Phoenix.
All-rounder Jacob Bethell showed great promise as the lower-order batter for Birmingham last year, playing some crucial knocks against Trent Rockets in both home and away games. He will be one to watch out for.
The bowling attack has only gotten stronger with another Kiwi bowler joining the ranks. Tim Southee picked a fifer against Trent Rockets in their last encounter at the home venue in Birmingham.
With Chris Wood and Boult in the squad, the pace attack looks lethal and will trouble the visitors in this match. All-rounders Benny Howell and Dan Mousely add more variety to the bowling attack.

Rockets have completely changed their all-rounders’ department. Marcus Stoinis and David Willey come into the squad, along with George Linde, as Rashid Khan and former skipper Lewis Gregory leave the Rockets.
Trent Rockets failed to score big at this venue the last time around, despite a strong batting order. The likes of Adam Hose, Sam Hain, and Joe Root will now be responsible for scoring runs in the top order.
Tom Banton will be expected to find his rhythm early in the series and get the Rockets off to a flying start at Edgbaston. While the experience of Root and Tom Aslop will come in handy in the middle order, Trent Rockets need a new opening partner for Banton.
Sam Hain or Max Holden can be expected to open the innings alongside the wicket-keeper batsman. In the lower middle order, Marcus Stoinis is a great option as a match-finisher.
He would be even better suited at number 4 ahead of Tom Aslop, while skipper David Willey can bat lower down the order at number 6. Willey has played at 3 often in the domestic circuit, but hasn’t lived up to the expectations, and we think the skipper should have Root continue at number 3.
In the bowling attack, Lockie Ferguson will be one to watch out for. He’s got support from other pacers like Ben Sanderson and Sam Cook. Overall, it is a promising pace attack. Rehan Ahmed, a legbreak bowler who’s played in the top order in the domestic tournaments, is a great find for England cricket.
He could make an appearance at number 4 in this match as well. Callum Parkinson and Akeal Hossein are other spinners in this squad to watch out for.

It will be mostly cloudy in Birmingham with a high of 21 degrees Celsius around the match time. There are no signs of rain and we can expect a complete, uninterrupted game between two quality teams. The overcast conditions will offer some movement for the new-ball bowlers early in the innings.

It is a balanced pitch where both batters and bowlers have dominated in the last season of The Hundred. Traditionally, the Edgbaston pitch has offered plenty of help for the batters, and there have been many high-scoring T20 games on this ground. The average 1st innings score in The Hundred last year was 121 runs. We reckon the team batting first in this match should aim for something over 145 runs to be in a competitive position.
Teams bowling first have won 3 of the last 4 The Hundred matches played at this venue. It is a great venue for batting, and the chasing team has found plenty of help in the second innings. There have been a couple of low-scoring games too, where the hosts restricted the opposition to below-par scores.
Birmingham Phoenix have retained most of their key players from last year. Whereas the Rockets will need to adjust to the new changes in their all-arounders’ department. Phoenix have a clear edge as far as squad strengths are concerned, and along with the home advantage, they will start as favorites in our match prediction.
