The 2025/26 Plunket Shield season has got off to an exciting start and after three full completed rounds, Auckland are the only side yet to be defeated and Wellington remain the solitary team yet to register a victory.
It has not all been victories for Auckland though, they have beaten Central Districts by an innings and 61 runs and Wellington by 162 runs but had to settle for a draw against Northern Districts in late November.
As for Canterbury, they got off to an excellent start, beating Northern Districts by five wickets during the opening round but have since drawn with Otago and lost heavily to Central Districts by 295 runs.
What will happen in Christchurch? Read on to hear our detailed preview.

There are plenty of places up for grabs in the bowling line-up of New Zealand at the moment and although Kyle Jamieson has been scheduled to build up his workload away from the glare of international cricket, he could find himself recalled in the coming days!
Canterbury do have a strong depth of bowlers which should be able to make up for his absence, if it is to pass at some point over the coming weeks, and in Ish Sodhi they have one of the best Black Cap spin bowlers of recent years.
With the bat, expect Chad Bowes at the top of the order and skipper Henry Nicholls to be the key players although Cole McConchie, Rhys Mariu and Matthew Boyle will all be keen to bounce back after ducks against Central Districts.
It needs a team effort to get back on track after the loss in the last game.

After the disappointment of a drawn game during the previous round, Auckland returned to winning ways with a crushing 162 run victory over Wellington in front of their own fans last week.
As is so often the case in four day cricket, first innings runs were crucial and Auckland will look to repeat that trick in this match after they took a 101 run lead into the second half of the game against Wellington.
With the bat, expect skipper Sean Solia, Bevon Jacobs and Cam Fletcher to lead the way.
In the bowling unit, Simon Keene and the incredibly talented Rohit Gulati, who has emerged this year, look set to be the main danger to the opposition batters.

The forecast is for wall to wall sunshine across day one of this match before more cloud cover on days two and three with the risk of rain on day four in Christchurch.
Hagley Oval remains one of the great grounds of New Zealand cricket and we can expect the ball to move around for the pace bowlers across the game with a par score of around 300 in the first innings of the match.
Conditions are always toughest to bat in the Plunket Shield on days two and three so we predict that both captains will opt to bat first should they win the toss ahead of this match.
