CDB finished at the top of the league stage in the 2025 edition, winning all five of their matches in the round-robin phase. They progressed directly to the semi-finals, where their campaign ended after Hayleys ‘A’ secured a 63-run victory.

CDB also enjoyed a strong run in the T20 competition that followed. They reached the final after beating Fairfirst Insurance by 68 runs in the semi-final, with Pulindu Perera scoring 50 off 34 balls and Muditha Lakshan taking five wickets. They eventually finished runners-up after losing the final to Hayleys ‘A’ by five runs.

The 2026 CDB squad features several familiar names from their successful recent campaigns. Sonal Dinusha will lead the side, with Tharindu Rathnayake, Lasith Croospulle, Lahiru Madushanka, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Dunith Wellalage, Isitha Wijesundara and Praveen Jayawickrama among the key names in the squad. The team also includes Lahiru Udara, Chamindu Wijesinghe and Janishka Perera, giving CDB plenty of batting depth and multiple bowling options.

Fairfirst Insurance enter the contest on the back of a dominant victory against BBK Partnership by eight wickets. BBK were bowled out for just 117 in 38.2 overs, with Fairfirst's bowling attack sharing the workload effectively. Dushan Vimukthi took three wickets for 19 runs, while Sanoj Darshika also claimed three for 17 and Vihas Thewmika returned two for 18.

Fairfirst then made light work of the chase, reaching 119/2 in 24.2 overs. Isuru Fernando was the standout performer, remaining unbeaten on 68, while Dushan Vimukthi finished unbeaten on 16. The eight-wicket victory gives Fairfirst an early boost ahead of their meeting with CDB.

Fairfirst reached the knockout stage last year after a strong league campaign and produced one of the tournament's biggest wins when they defeated BBK Partnership by 146 runs in the quarter-final. Sohan de Livera's 135 off 95 balls powered them to 346/7, while Dilum Sudeera and Kalana Liyanage took four and three wickets respectively.

The current squad includes Sohan de Livera, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Chamika Gunasekara, Thanuka Dabare, Lahiru Madusanka, Dunith Wellalage, Mohammed Azeem and Anuk Fernando, along with several other experienced domestic players. Sohan de Livera and Thanuka Dabare provide batting experience, while Chamika Gunasekara and Lahiru Madusanka add all-round options.
