It has been a 2025/26 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield campaign to forget for Otago Sparks so far after defeats against Auckland Women and Northern Districts Women twice!

As for Central Hinds, they have been beaten in only one of their four games so far, going down by 45 runs against Wellington Women on November 29th but they bounced back 24 hours later to beat the same opponents by 129 runs (DLS).

Auckland Women are the early pace-setters, like Central Hinds, they have won three out of four matches so far, whereas Otago Sparks remain the only team without a victory.

This looks like a game which most will be expecting Central Hinds to win!

Central Hinds Preview

Despite losing opener Georgia Atkinson to the first ball of the game, Central Hinds had very few other worries across the entirety of their clash with Wellington Women in match 11, eventually coming out on top with a victory margin of 129 runs (DLS).

Key to the win was the other four members of the top four who will all come into this game with plenty of confidence - opener Emma McLeod hit an unbeaten century with Cate Pedersen at three (51) and Flora Devonshire (46) all making useful contributions.

There was also a fine bowling performance from Elizabeth Cohr who returned figures of 4/13 from four overs while Rosemary Mair is always tough to bat against at this level.

This is a very strong Central Hinds side.

Central Hinds Predicted Playing XI:

Georgia Atkinson, Emma McLeod, Cate Petersen, Flora Devonshire, Hannah Rowe (c), Kerry-Anne Tomlinson, Rosemary Mair, Kate Gaging (wk), Ashuti Kumar, Jessica Ogden, Elizabeth Cohr

Otago Sparks Preview

Otago Women may have lost three out of three so far this season in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield but they came very close to getting a win against Northern Districts Women, going down to a two run defeat (DLS).

The bowling unit played well as a team in their last game and can take some confidence into this clash.

Expect Emma Black to do plenty of damage with the new ball after she took 4/37 in the last game.

Chloe Deerness and Anna Browning both took two wicket hauls last time out while the middle order showed their talent with scores in the 20s from Polly Inglis, Caitlin Blakely and Anna Browning.

Top order runs are required if Otago Sparks are to get their first win!

Otago Sparks Predicted Playing XI:

Felicity Leydon-Davis (c), Olivia Gain, Saffron Wilson, Bella James, Polly Inglis (wk), Caitlin Blakely, Anna Browning, Poppy Jay Watkins, Emma Black, Chloe Deerness, Louisa Kotkamp

Weather Conditions

This looks like being a warm and cloudy day in Palmerston North on Saturday. The temperature will be in the high teens or early twenties throughout the match.

CH-W vs OS-W Pitch Report

Fitzherbert Park has short square boundaries but is not a complete batters paradise. Expect a par score of around 220 in the first innings of the match on Saturday.

Toss: To Bowl

With the ball likely to dominate the bat in the opening five - seven overs of the game, we expect both captains to choose to bowl first if they win the toss ahead of this match.

Otago Women got very close to their first win of the competition in their last game but at the moment they just don't have the talent to get through those key times. We expect them to be beaten once again.

We are backing Central Hinds to win!
