The CSA T20 Challenge 2025 playoffs are underway, and Dolphins will go head-to-head with Western Province at Durban this Wednesday in the Eliminator. It’s win or go home—whoever falls short is out of the competition. The winner will move ahead to Qualifier 2, where they’ll meet the loser of Qualifier 1. Both teams have had their highs and lows this year, but each has proven they can take down anyone on their day. This Eliminator has all the makings of a tense, hard-fought battle that could stay close till the very end.

Dolphins head into the playoffs after finishing the group stage in third place with five wins and two losses. They’ve looked steady overall and have a real chance of making it to the finals if they play to their potential.
Gomolemo Phiri has been their main man with the bat, scoring 151 runs in five innings while striking at 147. He already has two fifties and will be expected to bring his best once again.
Khaya Zondo and Jason Smith have added quick runs and often set things up nicely. Smith, in particular, has batted with confidence in the two games he has played so far and already has a strike rate of 260.
The bowling group looks solid. Eathan Bosch and Anrich Nortje have shared 18 wickets, providing the team with regular breakthroughs. Meanwhile, JJ Smuts with six and Andile Simelane with four give the Dolphins extra strike options in the middle.

Western Province have had a pretty solid season overall, with four wins and three defeats to make fourth place in the standings to make their way to the playoffs. They would have liked a little more consistency and would hope for a proper team performance in the Eliminator.
Skipper Daniel Smith has been the standout in their batting line-up, scoring 228 runs across six innings with a blazing strike rate of 182.40.
Edward Moore and Joshua van Heerden have both stepped up too, each crossing 145 runs this season and giving the batting order some much-needed lift.
With the ball, Josh Breed has led the charge, collecting 10 wickets from seven matches at an economy of 7.20. Mbulelo Dube and Mthiwekhaya Nabe have chipped in with a combined 13 wickets. Beyond that trio, others in the bowling line-up have offered only limited support.

Seam bowlers often get some life early at Kingsmead, where coastal humidity and sea breeze help the ball move off the pitch. As the surface settles, batters make good inroads and totals in the 150s are common in 20-over games.
Durban will see partly cloudy and humid weather on match day, but we should get a full game.

Kingsmead has seen some big scores this season in the CSA T20 Challenge — like the 195-8 by Dolphins while chasing against Lions — which shows that the surface here stays true throughout the 40 overs. Hence, the team batting first will look to set a score of around 185-195 to feel safe.
Two of the three games played at Kingsmead in the CSA T20 Challenge 2025 have been won by the team batting second. This pattern suggests that the team winning the toss might opt to bat second in the Eliminator.
This has all the makings of a tight contest where either team can come out on top. Western Province will take confidence from their win against Dolphins earlier in the season. If Daniel Smith and Edward Moore fire with the bat for them, they will be in with a great chance. That said, Dolphins’ depth and stronger bowling unit gives them a slight 51-49 advantage in this clash.
We are backing Dolphins as the winners of the Eliminator.
