Essex will play the first game of the new season against Derbyshire on County Ground at Chelmsford as their opening fixture got abandoned against Lancashire without bowling a single ball. These 2 teams will meet each other after a gap of 8 years in this One-Day format.
These 2 teams had contrasting performances in the last season. Essex, who finished 2nd in group 1 with 5 wins from 8 games, had a brilliant campaign and they played in the semi-final as well. Derbyshire on the other hand, had a season to forget as they could manage to win just 1 game from 8 matches to finish at the bottom of the table in group 2.
The match on Friday will be a big opportunity for both squads to open their point accounts for the fresh season. Essex would like to carry forward the momentum from where they left in the previous season and Derbyshire would like to erase their past season’s memory to start on a positive note this year.
Essex’s first game against Lancashire got abandoned and they need to wait for the first win of the season before they can claim their win in the second fixture against Derbyshire. Both sides will face each other at a county ground on 5th August 2022.
Essex had a brilliant last season where they won 5 games from the 8 watches they failed. After making it through the semi-finals. They lost the 1st semi-final against Glamorgan who won last year’s Royal London One Day Cup. Josh Rymell and Feroze Khushi both were averaging 45 plus with the bat during last year’s campaign and will try to continue that form this season as well.
A key all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate was fantastic at his job and delivered a brilliant performance with the bat. He took 10 wickets in the last season to be Essex’s top wicket-taker in the last season. Simon Harmer (9 wickets) and Aron Nijjar (8 wickets) were also good at death overs in the previous year’s campaign.
The overall team is looking strong this season as well with a decent depth in the batting as well as bowling. They just need to execute their plans well on the ground when they face Derbyshire in the next fixture of the Royal London One Day Cup.
Alastair Cook, Tom Westley, Simon Harmer, Ryan ten Doeschate.

Derbyshire have not managed to come back from their form where they left the previous season and lost the first game of the season against Glamorgan. Now they will face Essex in their next fixture at Chelmsford after 2014 when the match between these 2 went as a resultless game.
In the first game against Glamorgan, the opponent asked Derbyshire to bat first and successfully struck down Derbyshsire’s batting unit. Derbyshire got bowled out to just 110 runs in 30th over only due to a poor batting display. Despite Mattie McKiernan’s 43 runs from 57 balls, no other batter could manage to pass the 20-run’s mark on the board.
Defending such a low total against a top side like Glamorgan was not an easy task for them. Though Sam Conners and Ben Aitchison have put some pressure with good initial spells, Glamorgan chased down the target in the 22nd over to secure an 8-wicket win over Derbyshire.
The team needs to up their batting performance when they face Essex in the next match. As their batting unit failed in front of Glamorgan’s bowling attack, it will be a difficult task for them to tackle the challenge of Essex’s attacking bowling unit.

The weather will be clear on match day, with a 10-20% chance of raining on match day. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be in the 34°C - 19°C range.
County Ground in Chelmsford will host this match. This ground is considered a home ground of the Essex side and has conducted many domestic games. This stadium can accommodate a total of 6500 people.
This ground has offered an advantage to bowlers in a few previous domestic matches. The team who has opted to bowl first here has delivered better than the batting team. At this location, whichever team wins the toss will want to bowl first and chase.
By looking at both the squads, Essex have an upper hand over Derbyshire in this match. Essex have built a strong squad for this season as well which has a good depth in the batting unit. Derbyshire on the other side failed to execute their batting order in the first match which might cost them a game against Essex also in the 2nd match.
We predict that Essex will defeat Derbyshire.
