Although Gloucestershire won their last game, this clash in Cheltenham certainly can not be billed as one which brings together two form sides in the South Group!
Prior to their 40-run victory over Glamorgan on Sunday in Cardiff, Gloucestershire had suffered successive defeats against Surrey by 28 runs and Middlesex by 23 runs and any hopes of a top four finish were looking remote.
But the win in Wales has given the 2024 T20 Blast champions hope and if they can win this match, followed by the local derby with Somerset on Friday then hope could turn into reality.
As for Sussex, they are two points better off than their hosts but their season is rapidly losing momentum. If they can put the brakes on their current run of form then they have a real chance but recent results will not fill their team or supporters with much hope.

It was an excellent display from Gloucestershire in Cardiff on Sunday as the boys from Bristol returned home across the Severn Bridge with a 40-run victory.
Crucial to the win was a strong batting showing as they posted 175/6 with opener Miles Hammond impressing and Ben Charlesworth top scoring on 55 runs from 44 balls.
Keeper-batter Jack Taylor played an anchor role when he came in and don't be surprised if he takes singles in this match which allows others to tee-off!
With the ball, left-arm pacer David Payne took three wickets in Cardiff and Marchant de Lange remains a real threat at this level.

Sussex Sharks ran into an in-form James Vince in their last game and were unable to defend a target of 168 in the second innings as they fell to their fourth defeat in a row.
The Sharks posted 167/7 but they will need one of their top three to build on a good start against Hampshire to really post a significant contribution this time around.
Openers George Thomas and Daniel Hughes made 37 and 27 respectively but it was Tom Clark at number three who top scored with 39.
With the ball, Danny Lamb took two wickets in that match but Sussex will be looking to Tymal Mills to get back to his best after he had taken 2+ wickets in three of his four previous matches.

According to the forecast, it will be a humid afternoon and evening in Cheltenham on Thursday. There will be cloud cover but the temperature will be in the mid-twenties throughout.
Cheltenham is a glorious and historic venue to play cricket at. With short boundaries, there could be plenty of boundaries hit and a par score should be approaching 200.
The pitch is likely to offer something for both the batters and the bowlers but will be most receptive for the bowlers early on. Therefore, we expect both skippers to bowl first in this match.
Neither team looks set to reach the quarter finals but there is still the chance that whoever wins this will be able to make it. Gloucestershire do not have much winning momentum to take into the game but compared to Sussex are in a much better place. As a result, we are predicting a home victory.
We are backing Gloucestershire to win!
