Perth Scorchers should emerge victorious in this face-off.
Tournament: Big Bash League 2020-21 | Format: T20 | Venue: Docklands Stadium, Melbourne | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowHobart Hurricanes are still in the race for the top 4 and are staying alive in the tournament despite having a poor net run rate of -0.117. They are currently 5th on the table with 23 points and have 3 games left. Given that the table has become so cluttered, they would have to win all 3 to make a real crack for the next round. Their next challenge is against Perth Scorchers who have moved to 2nd place and have a sensational winning momentum with them. Perth has already beaten Hobart once in this edition and would be confident of continuing their winning run.
Hobart Hurricanes had lost their way after suffering three consecutive losses. However, they managed a fine comeback victory in their last game after defeating a top side like Sydney Thunder which should give them confidence. Set a target of 178, Hobart chased down the total comfortably with 2 overs and 6 wickets to spare. The hero of the match was Ben McDermott whose outstanding 96 off 56 balls won the game for the team.
McDermott is, in fact, the leading run-getter of the season for Hobart with 397 runs in 9 games. He’s found able support in Colin Ingram (258 runs) and Tim David (231 runs). Even Dawid Malan (217) looked in great touch in the last game which should help the batting unit.
Unfortunately, the loss of all-rounder James Faulkner to injury will be a big blow for Hobart and leaves their bowling a little hollow. Scott Boland, who has been the team’s best bowler with 14 wickets, will have added responsibility now along with Riley Meredith (12 wickets) and Nathan Ellis (13 wickets).

Perth Scorchers are scripting an incredible story in BBL 10. In the last 7 games, they have won 6 matches and only Sydney Sixers were able to stop their winning run. They are coming off a thumping 59-run victory against Brisbane Heat which has pushed their net run rate to a healthy +0.974. After posting 174-5 on the board, Perth bundled out Brisbane for just 115 to clinch the win.
Colin Munro, who has been the leading run-getter of the season for the team with 353 runs, was in action again with a sublime 82 off 54 balls. Barring him, the role of opener Jason Roy (237 runs), Josh Inglis (227 runs), and Liam Livingstone (201 runs) has been equally important. They form the core of Perth’s batting this season and will have to continue the good work.
Perth’s bowling has been really good and has been led amazingly by Jhye Richardson who now has 21 wickets in the season. Richardson and Jason Behrendorff (9 wickets) have formed a good opening pair for the team and took 4 wickets between them in the last match too. Fawad Ahmed’s (11wickets) leg-spin too has been of great help to the team while Andrew Tye (12 wickets) keeps providing crucial blows in the middle.

As we saw in the previous game at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne, the pitch here is quite good to bat early on but tends to slow down a bit as the match progresses. Batsmen who have got their eye in will have a chance to make a big score. Spinners and seamers both will find some purchase from the wicket, especially towards the second half.
The weather in Melbourne on Friday is supposed to be cloudy and windy. We should have a full game.
In the previous match at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne in the ongoing season of the BBL, Perth Scorchers posted a healthy 174-5 on the board after being asked to bat first. The average score batting first here in the last few years has been around 160-170 and that is the total the team batting first in this match would be targeting.
The team winning the toss is likely to bat first as the pitch might favor the batting side in the first half.
In the last 5 matches between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers, the Hurricanes have won 3 matches while the Scorchers have won twice. However, the last time these two sides met in this edition of the BBL, Perth had registered an emphatic 9-wicket win. Perth is now looking like a confident side and has the momentum with them. They have a strong batting unit that should help them dominate this contest.
Perth Scorchers should emerge victorious in this face-off.
