India, under Shubman Gill, made a huge splash in England on their recent tour as they drew the series after trailing behind. As India move into a new era of Test cricket, they look for new heroes.
Gill has led them impeccably, and with the likes of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, he has the senior leadership behind him to rely on.
India will feature their full-strength squad for the home series against West Indies, with Sai Sudarshan and Devdutt Paddikal also part of the batting department.
West Indies have brought Shai Hope, Brandon King, and John Campbell on their tour of India under the leadership of all-rounder Roston Chase.
While there is no Shamar Joseph and the injured Alzarri Joseph is also out of the squad, they’ve got Jayden Seales to lead the pace attack. On paper, the West Indies show some promise with plenty of spin-bowling options that will play a key role at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
However, looking at India’s bowling strength, we reckon the visitors are likely to have a very tough time navigating the Indian challenge on Indian soil.

The last time India played a home series, they lost 3-0 to New Zealand. This is a new team with a new captain. They recently drew a Test series in England with a historic win at Lord’s in the final Test.
The confidence is at an all-time high. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are similar players, and we reckon India are better off choosing one of the two. Sai Sudharsan is a likely candidate for the top order.
He could be chosen over Padikkal to come in at number 3 while Yashasvi Jaiswal opens the innings alongside KL Rahul. Gill was at his absolute best in England, and we expect nothing less of the next superstar of Indian cricket at this venue, where he’s been sublime in the white-ball format.
There is a high probability that the pitch would be a turner, and as such, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav would prove to be match-winners. Dropping Karun Nair from the squad has paved the way for Nitish Reddy to return to the side.
He would make a great number 5 batsman, followed by Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar in the lower order. India’s batting lineup is very deep, considering the number of all-rounders they have.
If the pitch is spin-friendly, India will stick with two pacers, Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj. Reddy can be the third pacer and has shown great promise with the ball on his tour of Australia last year.

West Indies have a huge challenge at their hands. They have lost 4 of their last 5 Tests, 3 of them were at home. Except for Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph, most of the players from their home series against Australia are part of this squad.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul is a better candidate for opening the innings alongside Brandon King than Kevlon Anderson, who’s played just one Test. King was promoted to open the innings in their last Test match, replacing the old opening duo of former skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell.
On India’s tour, we reckon Campbell should open the innings to see through the new-ball bowlers like Bumrah and Siraj. In the middle order, they’ve got the experience of Shai Hope and Roston Chase.
Many of their batters have played fewer than 15 Test matches in their career so far. They are inexperienced and will find it difficult to adapt to the subcontinent conditions.
It is not going to be an easy task to take on Indian spinners on Indian soil. Campbell and Hope must lead from the front and strike big partnerships along the way to take the visitors to a respectable first innings total.
In the spin-bowling department, the West Indies have left-arm orthodox Jomical Warrican alongside the skipper. Jayden Seales and Anderson Phillip will lead the pace attack, while batting all-rounder Justin Greaves can be the third pacer in the side.

There will be rain and scattered thunderstorms in Ahmedabad on the opening day of the Test, with a high of 30 degrees Celsius. The skies would be partly cloudy on the following days of the Test match. We may not get a lot of cricket on Day 1.

Average Turn
The wicket at the Narendra Modi Stadium has become slower over the years, but we have seen high-scoring games in the red-ball format. However, in Tests, the pitch gets slower and offers more turn as the game progresses. The average first and second innings score here is 347 and 353 runs. That explains why most of the games have ended in a draw at this venue.
Not a lot of games have reached a conclusion at this venue, and the teams batting first and second have won 4 games each. Considering how the pitch behaves as the game progresses, chasing a target will not be easy on this ground, especially if it starts to turn.
Though the West Indies pack a promising overall squad, they will be on the back foot against the mighty Indian side. In addition to a strong bowling attack that features many of their experienced players, India also have a deep batting lineup with rising stars at all the key positions. India will start as the favourites in our match prediction.
