A 170+ score wasn’t enough for Ireland to get that elusive win against South Africa at Abu Dhabi, as the Proteas made short work of the chase, romping home with 8 wickets and 14 balls to spare in the innings.
But Ireland will look to put in another spirited performance with both bat and ball, just to avoid yet another series loss. Ireland had to host South Africa in UAE due to some logistical challenges in hosting this series back home.
But it was South Africa who really felt right at home. South Africa's clinical performance showcased their dominance over Ireland.
Their bowlers, led by Patrick Kruger, effectively stifled the Irish batting lineup.
The Proteas openers, Ryan Rickleton and Reeza Hendricks, provided a solid foundation for the chase, ensuring a comfortable victory.
Playing with intent, the Proteas openers didn’t hold back one bit in their chase and completed the job in style.

Ireland got off to a decent start and kept the scoreboard ticking over despite losing a few wickets against the run of play. Lorcan Tucker had to miss out owing to an injury with Ross Adair taking his place.
He got a few boundaries away quickly, setting the pace. Captain Paul Stirling lost his pole a couple of deliveries later and Harry Tector couldn’t make his 15 ball stay in the middle count for much.
Credit to the Irish to keep the runs coming though. They finished the powerplay with 63 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets, but they took their feet off the pedal a bit approaching the ten over mark.
Curtis Campher, Neil Rock and George Dockrell added crucial runs in the middle order, but they let a lot of runs in the table especially in the back end, with just 21 runs coming from the last 19 balls.
Irish bowling was made to look clueless or rather toothless by the Proteas openers, who put on a 136-run stand for the first wicket to take the game completely away from the Irish.

South Africa snapped their four-match losing record in T20 internationals with a dominant performance over Ireland, a side they have not lost to so far. Patrick Kruger headlined the Proteas bowling effort with a wonderful four over spell in which he castled four Irish players, including the top scorer Curtis Campher.
Pacers Lizaad Williams and Ottneil Baartman were happy to play second fiddle to the four spinners who took complete control with the 12 overs they sent down. They applied the brakes on the confident Irish middle order which was looking all set to capitalize on the excellent powerplay set up by the top order. 171 runs did not prove adequate in the end for the Ireland men, but chasing anything upwards of 170 was not easy.
And The Proteas openers, Ryan Rickleton and Reeza Hendricks, provided a strong foundation for the chase, ensuring a comfortable victory. Their ability to establish a solid partnership early on set the tone for the rest of the South African batting lineup.
They wasted no time in getting down to business and smashed 58 runs in the powerplay. They got to the 100-run mark in the eleventh over and the job was done with the equation down to 70 odd runs to get from the remaining overs. South Africa would be proud of the way they pegged Ireland back with the ball and of the manner in which their openers dismantled a deflated Irish attack.

Compared to other venues in the UAE, Abu Dhabi are way better to bat on.
Batsmen like Paul Stirling have had a lot of success here mainly becauase they didn't let their natural game to take over. They hold their instincts back to take the time to see off the new ball threat and play themselves eye in. Once they’re attuned to the pace of the wicket, they can go after the bowlers with no restraint.
Bowlers have a good chance of containing batsmen when they’re new to the crease. The forecast suggests clear skies and a lovely weather to play a game of cricket, which is great.

The match will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Irish have a 50% win record at this venue, winning six and losing six. South Africa have got a much better win-loss record though, with 4 wins and 1 loss from 5 matches.
The last 7 matches at this venue were won by the chasing team. If that’s any indication of things to come, the captain winning the toss would most likely opt to field first if the coin toss went his way.
South Africa are a different beast when they play fearlessly. And we saw a glimpse of that in the first match, especially in the second innings. Ireland are going to find it extremely difficult trying to stop the Proteas charging.
We are backing South Africa as winners of this contest.
