Our prediction is of a Rangpur Riders win!
It is T20 season with the Big bash in Australia, Super Smash in New Zealand, MSL in South Africa and now BPL in Bangladesh. T20s have been the most sought format and have the leagues have been massive hit across all the countries.
Khulna Titans take on the Rangpur Riders in their Tournament opener.
Khulna Titans are led by All-rounder Mahmudullah. Their team has a host of international stars such as Carlos Brathwaite, Dawaid Malan, Paul sterling, Afghani Zakir Khan and Dawid Wiese. Lasith Malinga and Yasir Shah will join their squad shortly once their international duties are over. They also boast Bangladeshi players such as Ariful Haque, Taijul Islam, Al-Amin, Subashis Roy, Nazmul Hossain and Junaid Siddique to support Mahmudullah.
Rangpur Riders lost their first match against Chittagong Vikings in a last over thriller. Rangpur riders led by Bangladeshi Skipper Mortaza put up great fight with the ball after being restricted to just 98 runs. Their team has T20 Superstars AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. They are expected to play alongside star players such as Alex Hales, Ravi Bopara, Rilee Rossouw and Sean Williams. Ravi Bopara had a good outing in the first match by scoring 44 runs which is almost 50% of team’s total score. Mehdi Maruf and Mohammed Mithum are the batting mainstays from Bangladesh. Mortaza is accompanied by England`s Benny Howell, Shafiul Islam and Farhad Reza in the pace bowling department. Experienced Campaigners Sohag Gazi and Nazmul Islam take control of the spin bowling duties.
Carlos Brathwaite – The West Indian T20 Skipper is known for brutal hits with the bat and pace bowling. No ground is big enough for him, once he gets going.
Ariful Haque – Bangladeshi all-rounder has been in good form for Bangladesh recently and would like to replicate his form in the BPL.
Stats from last year:
Mahmudullah - 312 runs at a Strike rate of 130 (50s-2)
Shafiul Islam - 12 wickets at an economy of 8.3 RPO (BB- 5/26)
Mahmudullah (C), Ariful Haque, Carlos Brathwaite, Dawid Malan, Junaid Siddique, Subhasis Roy, Brendon Taylor, Jahurul Islam(Wk), Zakir Khan, David Wiese, Taijul Islam
Khulna Titans are expected to go in with a strong team even in the absence of Yasir Shah and Lasith Malinga.
Ravi Bopara – Bopara is one of the most experienced T20 players, who plays across different leagues across the globe. He can add value to the team with both bat and ball.
Mohammed Mithun – The Bangladeshi Keeper has notched up runs at all levels of cricket he played so far. He would be raring to prove himself in the BPL circuit.
Last year stats:
Chris Gayle - 485 runs at a Strike rate of 176 (100s-2, 50s-2) - Highest run scorer
Mashrafe Mortaza - 15 wickets at an economy of 6.7 RPO (BB- 3/24)
Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, AB de Villiers, Mohammed Mithun(Wk), Ravi Bopara, Boney Howell, Farhad Reza, Sohag Gazi, Nazmul Islam, Shafiul Islam
The dynamic duo of AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle are expected to slot into the playing XI. O other changes are expected.
The match is scheduled to start at local time 5.20 PM local time. Sher-e-Bangla stadium is known to be slow pitch and aids the bowlers. Run scoring is not easy in the Dhaka ground and we are in for a low scoring match. Scores in range of 130-140 runs will be tough to chase. No rain or other interruptions are expected and we will get a full quota of 40 overs.
WIN the toss, BAT First
Batting under lights becomes difficult and the pitch may open up in the second innings as this might be second match of the day in the same pitch. So both teams would look to bat first and score around 140 runs.
The quality of the players in the Rangpur Riders places them clearly as the favorites to win this contest. But T20 is an unpredictable format where match might turn with a small moment of brilliance.
Rangpur Riders to get their maiden victory this season!
