It is the 3rd quarterfinal at the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 and the Lancashire Lightning would head into a tough contest with the Essex Eagles. Both sides come to the game after finishing the league stage with a win and would be high on confidence. Lancashire defeated Birmingham Bears in the last game while the Eagles registered a massive win against Glamorgan.

Lancashire Lightning haven’t lost a game at home this season and this would boost their confidence. They have a strong bowling attack which is important for a venue such as this. The Eagles come here after a massive score in the last game, and they would like to carry that confidence forward. This would be a tight contest given the strengths of the two teams.

Lancashire Preview

Dane Vilas’ team comes into this contest after a confidence-boosting win against the Birmingham Bears. It was a close contest where the side won by 2 wickets gaining momentum ahead of the big contest. The side has had a good campaign so far with the bat and the ball. They play a very strong team here and Vilas would like to see a good effort by his players in this game and march into the semifinals.

They have a strong opening pair in Philip Salt and Keaton Jennings and the duo shall look to start the proceedings on a strong note. Vilas has played well in the middle order and runs shall be needed from him Steven Croft and Tim David in this game as there would be pressure on both sides. They would also expect runs from Luke Wells, Danny Lamb, and Luke Wood down the order.

There would be huge pressure on Luke Wood and Richard Gleeson in this game to come up with a good show as they meet a strong bowling attack. Danny Lamb and Tom Hartley would have to bowl crucial spells in the middle overs for the side to be in a good position. The side would like to see Matthew Parkinson make use of his experience in this important contest.

Lancashire Predicted Playing XI:

Dane Vilas (c), Philip Salt, Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Croft, Tim David, Luke Wells, Danny Lamb, Luke Wood, Tom Hartley, Richard Gleeson, Matthew Parkinson

Lancashire Actual Playing XI:

Steven Croft, Luke Wood, Tom Hartley, Luke Wells, Tom Bailey, Timothy David, Rob Jones, Dane Vilas, Danny Lamb, Keaton Jennings, Phil Salt

Essex Preview

Simon Harmer’s team enjoyed a great run toward the end of the league stages. They come here with a 69-run win against Glamorgan and the side would have its spirits high. It won’t be easy against the Lancashire Lightning in the opponent’s dent and Harmer shall look to get the best performance out of his players in this game and move to the next round.

Adam Rossington and Robin Das set up a good opening wicket stand in the last game and the same would be expected from them here. Paul Walter and Daniel Lawrence played match-winning knocks in the last game and the side would expect similar performances from them here in the middle order along with Michael Pepper. Daniel Sams and Harmer add to the side’s batting firepower.

Aaron Beard and Daniel Sams struck early blows with the new ball in the last game and the side would be happy to see a repeat of the same from them. Harmer is an experienced campaigner, and the side would like to see a good show from him in the middle overs. Ben Allison and Paul Walter add variety to this attack, and they would have to be on their toes for the side to win.

Essex Predicted Playing XI:

Simon Harmer (c), Adam Rossington (wk), Robin Das, Michael-Kyle Pepper, Daniel Lawrence, Paul Walter, Tom Westley, Daniel Sams, Aaron Beard, Ben Allison, Samuel Cook

Essex Actual Playing XI:

Weather Conditions

The skies over Manchester would see cloud cover on July 8. Batting conditions are expected to be challenging as the bowlers would get the ball to move in the early overs. The wicket is flat, and batsmen would be able to score runs once they get their eyes set in. The side batting first shall be happy to have 170 runs on the board in this high-pressure contest.

Venue Details

Old Trafford, Manchester has a flat surface, but the ground is also known to assist fast bowlers in the early overs when they can get the ball to move. Batsmen can play their strokes as the ball comes onto the bat nicely. Spinners have also done well here as the ball grips the surface and turns.

Toss: To Bat

Most teams in the past have won games at this venue batting first. The wicket at Old Trafford is known for getting slower as the game progresses and we have seen sides struggle to chase scores. The side batting first in this game shall have no hesitation in opting to bat first.

The Essex Eagles have enjoyed a great run in the latter half of the season. But the side would be worried about its bowling attack as they head into this game as most of their bowlers haven’t been in the best shape so far. The Lancashire Lightning have not lost a single game at home and as they take the field the side would start as favorites to win this contest.
