The IPL 2026 caravan reaches its next destination, the City of Nawabs Lucknow for match 5 to be played between hosts Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC). The game will be played on April 1, Wednesday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium from 7:30 p.m. IST.
If the previous season’s matchups between the two sides are anything to go by, we are seated for another exciting clash. For the hosts, Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh would play a significant role. Pooran has scored 2293 runs in 90 IPL matches at a strike rate of 169 and Marsh has rediscovered himself recently, he has played 65 IPL matches and scored 1292 runs, finding success with LSG.
The Delhi Capitals would field a solid middle-order. KL Rahul would set the early momentum followed by the middle-order brilliance of Stubbs, Miller and Ashutosh. Tristan Stubbs has scored 705 runs at a strike rate of 163.20 and Ashutosh scored 393 runs at a strike rate of 163.8.
The Lucknow Super Giants are a top heavy side. They have a top four of Marsh, Pooran, Markram and Pant. Delhi Capitals meanwhile have a solid middle-order and finishing touches in the form of Stubbs, Miller, Ashutosh Sharma etc. With the ball, both teams look equally matched.

Lucknow Super Giants won by 50 runs
143/9 in 20.0
The Lucknow Super Giants have had a pretty rough outing in the IPL 2025 season, finishing at 7th despite a start-studded team led by their prolific captain Rishabh Pant.
Despite being the new boys on the block, Lucknow Super Giants managed to qualify for the playoffs in their first two seasons, since then they have only gone downhill. This season, they have managed to keep hold of their core strength and would be eager to make it to the playoffs again after missing out twice.
Last season, Australia’s T20I captain Mitchell Marsh was the top run scorer for LSG in IPL 2025. He scored 627 runs while opening. Caribbean batter Nicholas Pooran has been the team's best batter over the past few seasons and scored 524 runs last season, hitting 40 sixes while Marsh smashed 37 himself.
The duo will be once again responsible for setting the tone early on, looking to maximize the powerplay. Captain Rishabh Pant meanwhile had a horrid 2025 season, scoring only 269 runs. However, he ended the season on a positive note with an unbeaten century, 118 runs off 61 balls vs RCB when he finally promoted himself to number 3 in the batting order. He will most probably continue at 3. He has graced the IPL stage in 125 matches and scored 3353 runs at a strike rate of 147.60.
In the lower middle-order, the finishing responsibilities will rely on the Indian talents like Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad. The former has a strike rate of 138.56 while the latter has scored at 151.84 scoring rate.
With the ball is where things were not right for the Rishabh Pant led side. Debutant Digvesh Rathi was the side’s top wicket-taker with 14 wickets. He troubled the opposition batters with his variations and became quite famous for celebrations. He is coming into the tournament off the back of a solid SMAT campaign with Delhi, bagging 7 wickets in 5 games.
Avesh Khan and Shardul Thakur also managed to chip-in with crucial scalps, bagging 13 wickets each, the latter of whom is part of the team this season. Both bowlers were intelligent with their line and length and managed to outfox the opposition batters with change of variation.
However, LSG has improved their bowling side with the important acquisition of India international Mohammed Shami. He has played 120 IPL matches and taken 133 wickets. Last season didn't go well for him but he will have the South African speedster Anrich Nortje alongside him. The Proteas pacer has 56 T20I wickets and 61 wickets in the IPL in 48 matches with his menacing pace.
Aiden Markram Total Runs Over 24.5 @ 1.85
Markram scored 258 runs in 6 matches at Ekana Stadium last season, averaging 43 at this ground. Against the Delhi Capitals, he scored 52 runs the last time he faced them here, making the runs over market a well-backed pick for today's fixture.
LSG Total Sixes Under 9.5 @ 1.80
LSG averaged 9 sixes per match last season at Ekana Stadium, and against the Delhi Capitals over the last two seasons at this venue they managed to hit only seven sixes.
LSG Total Fours Under 16.5 @ 1.75
The Super Giants averaged 16 fours per match last season at Ekana Stadium, but against the Delhi Capitals specifically they have averaged just 12 fours per match at this venue. DC's disciplined bowling attack has consistently kept LSG's boundary count in check here.
LSG to Score Over 54.5 in 6 Overs @ 1.85
Lucknow Super Giants scored over 50 runs in five of their seven matches at Ekana in the powerplay last season. The average powerplay score at Ekana Stadium last season was 60 runs and we predict another high scoring powerplay for the home side.
Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant (C, WK), Nicholas Pooran, Akshat Raghuwanshi, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mohammed Shami, Anrich Nortje, Digvesh Rathi. Impact Player: Avesh Khan/ Mukul Choudhary.

The Delhi Capitals is now one of the two founding member teams who are yet to win the IPL Trophy after RCB won in 2025. Their wait for their maiden title extended after they finished 5th last season, missing out on the playoffs spot by just 1 point.
The Capitals had a great start to the IPL 2025 season under new captain Axar Patel. They won 6 out of their opening 8 matches of the season, but then witnessed massive fall-off, only winning one game in the following 6 matches. They will be hoping for a winning start again and this time look to carry that momentum throughout.
Former Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul, who now plays for Delhi Capitals, was the top run scorer for the side in IPL 2025 season. He scored 539 runs in 13 innings including an unbeaten century vs Gujarat Titans. Rahul was the only batter who consistently scored well and the team would once look at him to score the runs given his experience of 145 IPL matches under his belt and scored 5222 runs. The 2nd top scorer for Delhi last year was Abhishek Porel, who scored 301 runs in 13 innings.
These two will open the innings again for the Delhi Capitals followed by the IPL veteran Nitish Rana. He is one of the best batters against spin bowling and will elevate the Capitals’ batting performance. Rana has scored 2853 runs in 118 IPL matches since his debut in 2016 and averages well 30 against spin bowling.
Then they have posted huge trust on the South African finishers duo of Tristan Stubbs and David Miller. The former had a huge responsibility down the order last season and scored 300 runs at a strike rate of 150.75. Miller meanwhile has switched from LSG to DC after an unimpressive campaign last year. Stubbs has scored 705 runs in 32 IPL matches at a strike rate of 163.20 and the veteran Miller has scored 3077 runs in 141 games, although his strike rate has seen a dip to 138.6 in the last few season.
Captain Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam will play an important role too. Patel might play as a floater mostly whereas Nigam proved last season that he can smash the ball hard.
With the ball, Kuldeep Yadav was the side’s top wicket-taker with 15 scalps to his name. He will be a threat again with 102 wickets to his name in this competition. IPL 2024 champion Mitchell Starc also bagged 14 wickets but he is yet to join the squad due to an injury.
In Starc’s absence, responsibilities will rely on the likes of Mukesh Kumar, Lungi Ngidi and Auqib Nabi, the latter two of course are the latest entry into the squad. Ngidi has 29 wickets in 16 IPL matches while Mukesh has 36 big wickets to his name. Auqib Nabi has been making waves in the domestic circuit with his performance. He finished as the top wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy with 60 wickets and earlier bagged 15 wickets in SMAT 2025.
KL Rahul Total Fours Over 2.5 @ 1.80
KL Rahul has a remarkable record at Ekana Stadium, averaging 4.23 fours per match at this ground. Last season he averaged four fours per match here. He is one of the top batters who can score boundaries with ease without taking unnecessary risks in the powerplay overs. We are backing Rahul to hit over 2.5 fours in today's match against LSG.
Abhishek Porel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Rana, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Axar Patel (C), Vipraj Nigam, Auqib Nabi, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Lungi Ngidi. Impact Player: Ashutosh Sharma/ T Natarajan

Average Turn
The pitch at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow is traditionally on the slower side with low-to-medium bounce. It helps spinners quite a bit, especially in the middle overs when the ball grips, while pacers rely on variations and cutters.
However there has been a change of characteristics witnessed recently. When batters are set, we have seen scores touch 180+ in the recent SMAT 2025 and UPT20. In the 22 IPL matches played at the venue, the average first inning score is 175 and 235 is the highest total at the venue by KKR.
Total Fours in the Match Over 32.5 @ 1.85
Ekana Cricket Stadium is one of the better venues for betting on the total sixes and total fours markets. The average number of fours per match at this ground last season was 34.6, and the outfield is lightning fast with the ball coming onto the bat nicely. We predict a high-scoring game with boundaries throughout.
Total Match Sixes Over 18.5 @ 1.94
The average number of sixes per match at Ekana Stadium last season was 17. LSG averaged 9 sixes per match at this venue, while DC also struck 9 sixes in the only match they played here last season. With both teams boasting power-packed batting lineups, we back the total match sixes to go over 18.5.
Delhi Capitals to win the coin toss @ 1.90
We back the Delhi Capitals to win the coin toss in today's match against the Lucknow SuperGiants.
Chasing has been the way to go for the captain that wins the toss at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. In IPL 2025, 6 out of 8 matches were won by the team chasing. The potential of dew plays a significant role at the venue, which makes chasing a lot easier.
Lucknow Super Giants are slight favorites at home. They boast a powerful top-four (Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant) and improved bowling with Mohammed Shami and Anrich Nortje. Delhi Capitals have solid batting (KL Rahul, Nitish Rana, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller) and spin options. On a slow pitch, back LSG to win.
