Mumbai, the reigning Ranji Trophy Champions, will face a tough challenge against the Rest of India team in the Irani Trophy. It is the second appearance for Mumbai in the Irani Cup in a decade, and they will look to do well. The Rest of India has won the last three titles and will look to add another jewel to the crown.

The Rest of India has a powerful batting lineup that boasts some of the best talent in the country. Their bowlers have also done well in recent months, making the team confident. Mumbai hasn't won the title in more than two decades, and it remains to be seen if the team can break the jinx with a good show this year.

Mumbai Preview

It is after 8 years that Mumbai has won the Ranji Trophy and qualified for this tournament. Their last win in the Irani Cup came back in 1997-98. Rahane and his men would look to change that. They have an in-form team with a strong batting lineup. The Rest of India team will pose and big challenge and the Mumbai team needs Rahane to lead from the front in this game.

Prithvi Shaw will look to deliver a strong start in the game along with Siddhesh Lad. Musheer Khan's absence is a big loss for the team and they need a good show in the middle order from Sarfaraz Khan, Rahane, and Shreyas Iyer. Hardik Tamore and Royston Dias will look to add to the score in the lower middle order.

On the bowling front, the team expects a good show from Shardul Thakur and Mohit Avasthi with the new ball as they are up against a strong batting lineup. Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian must use the conditions to their advantage. The side will also expect Sarfaraz Khan to do well in the supporting roles.

Mumbai Predicted Playing XI:

Ajinkya Rahane (c), Prithvi Shaw, Siddhesh Lad, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Hardik Tamore (wk), Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Royston Dias, Mohit Avasthi

Rest of India Preview

Ruturaj Gaikwad will be confident heading into this contest. They have a strong group of players, who have done well in the past 12 months. The Rest of India team has won the last three editions of the tournament, and Gaikwad is looking to extend this record. They are up against a strong and confident team and Gaikwad expects a strong show from his players.

Abhimanyu Easwaran is one of India's emerging players, and he looks to deliver a strong start with Devdutt Padikkal. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad must anchor the innings in the middle order and add runs with Ricky Bhui and Dhruv Jurel. The team also expects runs from Shashwat Rawat and Rahul Chahar in the lower middle order.

The team has a strong bowling attack, and they will need early wickets from Prasidh Krishna and Mukesh Kumar to rock Mumbai's boat. Yash Dayal and Rahul Chahar will look to do well with the old ball and trouble the batters. The team will also expect a good show in the supporting role from Manav Suthar and Shashwat Rawat.

Rest of India Predicted Playing XI:

Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Abhimanyu Easwaran, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Shashwat Rawat, Manav Suthar, Rahul Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dayal

Weather Conditions

We expect warm and dry weather in Lucknow on all the days of the game. We expect a flat surface where the ball would come to the bat nicely, allowing batters to play their strokes easily. The ball will turn on in the last two days, and the side batting first shall look to have 400 runs in the first innings.

MCA vs REI Pitch Report

Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, has a flat surface. We have had high-scoring contests at this venue in the past. Spinners enjoy a good record as the ball grips and turns on this track. It isn't the easiest of venues for the fast bowlers.

Toss: To Bat

This wicket is ideal for batting on the first two days. From Day 3 onward the spinners get into the act and can make it challenging for the batters. The side winning the toss won't hesitate to bat first on this surface.

Mumbai hasn't won the title in the last 27 years. They have a strong batting lineup but lack punch in their bowling. The Rest of India side ticks all the boxes and has their players in good form. They have a strong batting lineup, which puts them ahead in this contest.

Rest of India to win
