It is one of the biggest clashes early on in the season, as the reigning champions, Coastal Kings Mangaluru (formerly Mangaluru Dragons), square off against last season's runners-up, the Hubli Tigers. This third match of the KSCA Maharaja Trophy 2026 season takes place on Sunday, June 21st. The venue for this match is the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru, and the scheduled start time is 2:30 PM IST.

Head-to-Head Record: The Hubli Tigers hold a 7-3 record against Mangaluru in the Maharaja Trophy. However, last season, Mangaluru defeated the Tigers twice, with both of those crucial victories coming during the playoffs.

Coastal Kings Mangaluru Preview

A new and revamped look defines the defending champions, who have changed their name from the Mangaluru Dragons to Coastal Kings Mangaluru. They also feature a change in leadership, with Karun Nair returning to the tournament and being appointed as the new skipper.

They have made a few changes to the batting lineup as well. SJ Nikin Jose (179 runs in 8 matches) is a key feature, alongside two batters from the Mysore Warriors who have moved over to the Mangaluru side: Muralidhara Venkatesh, who scored 229 runs in 10 matches, and Codanda Ajit Karthik, who scored 139 runs in 8 matches. These two players will also provide handy assistance with the ball during the middle overs.

Suraj Ahuja is another key batter to watch, having scored 255 runs in 10 matches last season, averaging 31.88 and striking at 150.00. If he gets going at the top of the order, a high score will certainly be on the cards as he sets up the game early on in the powerplay overs.

In the bowling department, a lot will rely on Vasuki Koushik to lead the fast-bowling attack after a lean patch last season where he picked up 8 wickets in 7 matches. Meanwhile, the ever-experienced leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal—who led the side last time around with 17 wickets and played a key role in his team's championship run—will look to carry that excellent form into this season as well.

Coastal Kings Mangaluru Predicted Playing XI:

Karun Nair (C), SJ Nikin Jose, Kushaal M Wadhwani, Venkatesh M, Karthik CA, Shreyas Gopal, Santokh Singh, Koushik V, Aaron Cyril Christie, Suraj Ahuja, Dheeraj J Gowda

Coastal Kings Mangaluru Actual Playing XI:

Karun Nair, Dheeraj J Gowda, Nikin Jose, Venkatesh Muralidhara, Siddharth Akhil, Suraj Ahuja, Shreyas Gopal, Santokh Singh, Kushal Wadhwani, Vasuki Koushik, C A Karthik

Hubli Tigers Preview

The runners-up of last season, the Hubli Tigers, lost the finals by 14 runs via the VJD method after scoring 154 runs batting first—which didn't prove to be enough runs on the board. This time around, they have let go of their skipper Devdutt Padikkal, who was their talisman last season. Additionally, Yash Raj Punja, who was their top bowler last season, is also no longer a part of the side.

Mayank Agarwal has been signed as their new skipper for this season. He scored 188 runs in 11 matches last season during an average individual year, but as a leader, he was exceptional, taking his former side into Qualifier 2. Mohammed Taha, who was the team's second-highest run-scorer with 342 runs in 12 matches—where he smashed two centuries—is going to be a key batter at the top of the order.

In the middle order, the big-hitting Abhinav Manohar, who has hit the most sixes in the tournament's history and is just 16 short of 100 sixes, will look to start his season with a bang. Aneeshwar Gautam, Shikhar Shetty, and Hardik Raj are the three key all-rounders for the Tigers. Hardik Raj, with his left-arm spin, is going to be a key spinner during the middle overs.

In the bowling department, Kumar LR, who picked up 5 wickets in 8 matches last season, provides stability with the ball as the second seamer. Manvanth Kumar L, Aditya Goyal, and Kruthik Krishna are the other crucial bowling options for the Tigers.

Hubli Tigers Predicted Playing XI:

Mayank Agarwal (C), Mohammed Taha, Abhinav Manohar, Shikhar Shetty, CR Hardik Raj, Aneeshwar Gautam, Abhishek Ahlawat, Kumar LR, Aditya Goyal, Kruthik Krishna, Manvanth Kumar L

Hubli Tigers Actual Playing XI:

Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Shetty, Manvanth Kumar L, Kumar L R, Mohammed Taha, Aneeshwar Gautam, Hardik Raj, Shivkumar Rakshith, Abhinav Manohar, Vikas Gowda, Vaibhav Sharma A

MGD vs HT Pitch Report

The pitch at Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground generally offers a balanced track but as this is the first match of the season expect a hard, good track with a little bit of grass where it will favour the batters. The average 1st innings score in the last 10 Maharaja Trophy matches played at this venue is 163 runs, a score of around 180 could be par for this fixture.

Score Prediction

If Coastal Kings Mangaluru Bat 1st: 165-180 runs
If Hubli Tigers Bat 1st: 175-190 runs

Toss: To Bowl

Teams bowling first won 6 of the last 10 T20 matches played at Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground in Mysore. The surface favours the team chasing and we predict the team that win's the toss will look to bowl first.

Toss Prediction:  Hubli Tigers to win the coin toss

It is going to be an evenly matched tight contest, but if you look at the balance of both the teams the Hubli Tigers hold a slight edge especially with the bat, where the Coastal Kings lacks enough firepower in the middle order which could well prove to be the difference maker. We are backing the Hubli Tigers to win the match.
