Middlesex are still searching for their first win in the Royal London One-Day Cup 2023. After narrowly missing out on a win against Essex last week, they were walloped by 133-runs against Kent in yesterday’s clash at the Kent County Cricket Ground. Middlesex were bowled out for just 155, chasing a target of 289.
Middlesex’s batting has continuously let them down. Captain and opener Mark Stoneman has led from the front with 141 runs in just 3 innings at an average of 47 and a strike rate of 82.45. That hasn’t been the case, however, as he has hardly gotten any support from the others.
Middle-order batting all-rounder Ryan Higgins has done a decent job as well, scoring 124 runs in 3 innings at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 130.52. He has also taken 4 wickets with his seam bowling at an economy of 5.12.
Among the other bowlers, leg-spinner Luke Hollman has stood out, grabbing 7 wickets at an economy of just 4.46. He has been consistently good and has not allowed the batters to take him on easily, even on these batting-friendly pitches.

Nottinghamshire too have stuttered a bit after that massive 168-run victory in their season opener against Essex. In their next four matches, they have won one and lost two, with one game being abandoned due to rain. They are coming off a 7-run loss to Surrey at Nettleworth. In a rain-reduced contest, Nottinghamshire had to chase 245 in 40 overs, but were bowled out for 237.
Lyndon James (71 off 66 balls) top-scored, while Matthew Montgomery (62 off 45 balls) played a blinder at No. 5. James and Montgomery are now the leading run-getters for the team this year, with 189 runs and 151 runs in 4 innings, respectively.
On the bowling front, it is Dane Paterson who has taken the top spot among this year’s leading wicket-takers for Nottinghamshire with 9 scalps in 3 innings at an economy of 4.38. Brett Hutton (8 wickets at 4.34) and Tom Loten (7 wickets at 4.92), too, are worth backing.

The Radlett Cricket Club boasts a pitch that favors batters and poses challenges for bowlers. As is the case with most English venues, seam bowlers will get some help from the air if the overhead conditions are cloudy. However, they won’t get much assistance from the surface once it settles down.
The first match of the season at the venue was washed off due to rain, but a full game is expected this time as the weather will be nice with intervals of clouds and sunshine.
The Radlett Cricket Club recorded four totals over 340 last year, with Middlesex's 374-3 versus Warwickshire being the highest. We are anticipating a high-scoring contest here. The team batting first should aim to set a total of at least 350 runs in this match.
This is a venue that's loaded in favor of batsmen. It's likely that both teams will be looking to bat first and put on a massive total to put the other out of the game.
Nottinghamshire have won four of the last five One-Day Cup matches against Middlesex. Though they have lost their last two games, we are still backing Nottinghamshire to come out on top in this encounter. Middlesex are struggling on all fronts, particularly their batting, and it looks unlikely that they will fare any better against Nottinghamshire’s strong bowling unit. A flat pitch might make things easier for them, but Nottinghamshire’s batters too should be able to make the most of it.
Back Nottinghamshire as the winners of this match.
