Not a start both of the teams have wanted, facing the defending Champions and the runner-up of the first edition in their opening game itself. However, they would like to get over the disappointment and get off and running in the competition. Northern Superchargers got off to the worst possible start in the season opener. Batting first they got off to a good start, but consistently losing wickets slowed the momentum of the innings and prevented them from setting a respectable target. The bowling will have their work cut out, taking just one wicket while defending the target.

London Spirit, on the other hand, would be very very disappointed to not have set a better total after the start given by Beth Mooney. To make matters worse, the 3rd highest run scorer was the Extras section - helping with 12 runs. The bowlers tried their best to defend the total, but the opposition was just too strong. It promises to be an interesting contest as both teams have a point to prove and 2 important points at stake.

Northern Superchargers Women Preview

The Northern Superchargers would want to take the first game out of their system and look to improve on their performances going forward in the competition if they want to go long in this edition. Batting first, it looked as if the Superchargers would run away with this, with opener Alyssa Healy going all guns blazing, only to depart for 15 off 7 balls. While the rest of the middle-order batters were disappointing, Jemimah Rodrigues scored yet another half-century. Laura Wolvaardt missed out on a half-century by 1 run, scoring 49 off 39 balls. The batting needs to do a lot better to have a chance in the tournament.

The bowling department had little to nothing to boast about. The Oval Invincibles flew past them, as they chased down the target with 16 balls to spare. Jenny Gunn and Katie Levick were economical, but all in all, they would want to improve their bowling performance in the next game.

With one of the best individual performances that we would see the entire season, London Spirit will be very disappointed to not have capitalised on it. 

Beth Mooney scored one of the best innings that we will ever see, falling short of a well-deserved Century by 3 runs, scoring 97 off 55 balls, which included 16 boundaries and 1 six. Amelia Karr also contributed with a handy 37 off 27 balls. But apart from that, there was nothing to add with regards to the batting performance. The middle order will be expected to fire next time around and capitalise on the good start provided. 

The bowling department tried to put on a fight with what they had, but it looked like they were short of 10-15 runs, to make it a contest. Danielle Gibson managed to pick up 2 wickets and was given good support by Megan Schutt who only conceded 22 runs of her 20 balls. They would like to improve at the start of the innings and pick up early wickets.

The Kennington Oval, London is one of the best places to play the game. With the pitch staying true over the 40 overs and a good batting wicket, it is a fantastic venue to play this much-important fixture.

The team winning the toss should look bat first here. It's a good batting track and both teams have a strong batting lineup. Batting first to score a big total and then defending it would be a good strategy here.
