Pakistan have won two matches and lost one in the ongoing tri-series. While they were pummeled by New Zealand in their last game, they still have enough quality in their side to take down Bangladesh, their next opponent. Pakistan have already beaten Bangladesh once earlier in this tri-series and would be confident of repeating the feat given how much they have dominated them over the years. Bangladesh have been already eliminated and need something special to end the series on a high.
Pakistan started this tri-series with two consecutive wins but suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their previous game. After choosing to bat first, they could only manage 130-7 on the board and New Zealand chased the target down in just 16.1 overs with 9 wickets remaining. Pakistan’s main problem has been that they are too reliant on their star openers – Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Whenever these two fail, the middle and lower middle order tend to struggle. The likes of Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Haider Ali are yet to make an impact in this series.
Pakistan’s bowling does feel a little inexperienced in the absence of Shaheen Afridi. In the last game against New Zealand, the likes of Shahnawaz Dahani, Mohammad Wasim Jr., and Mohammad Nawaz were carted all over. Only Naseem Shah and leg-spinner Shadab Khan looked to trouble the batters. Expect these two to do well against the Bangladeshi batters as well. Pakistan benched fast bowler Haris Rauf in the previous game but might want to get him back to bolster their bowling unit.

This has been a series to forget for Bangladesh. They have lost all their three games so far and have been eliminated. Their game against Pakistan will be their final pre-World Cup match and the team will be playing for pride in the hope of a win in this tri-series.
Bangladesh has been below par in all the departments. Their batting unit has failed to deliver while their bowling has been listless. Only one batter has scored a fifty in this series for them – captain Shakib Al Hasan’s 70 off 44 balls against New Zealand. Experienced batters like Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, and Mosaddek Hossain have all failed to deliver.
None of their bowlers have left a significant impact in this series. Shakib Al Hasan has been wicketless so far and gone at an economy of 9. Taskin Ahmed was impressive again, picking up 2 wickets in 2 matches at an economy of 7.37. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has done a solid containing job, going at just 6 runs per over after 2 matches.

The pitch at the Hagley Oval has been a little two-paced. It offers some movement for the seam bowlers but tends to ease out after the initial few overs. However, bowlers will have to be mindful of their lengths or they will get carted.
A couple of showers are expected in Christchurch on the morning of the game.
The average 1st innings score at the Hagley Oval is 153. While teams have struggled to put on big totals on the board in this tri-series, New Zealand showed it can be done when they smashed 208-5 against Bangladesh in their last game. The team batting first in this match will look to post a total of around 165-175 runs.
Chasing has yielded better results at the Hagley Oval in this series. So the team winning the toss is expected to field first.
Bangladesh have won just two T20Is out of the 17 they have played against Pakistan. They were also beaten comfortably by Pakistan in the first match of the ongoing tri-series. It hence goes without saying that Pakistan will start as favorites for this clash. Bangladesh’s best chance is to remove the two Pakistani openers quickly and then restrict the middle order. However, their bowling doesn’t really have the potency required to trouble batters on this pitch.
Expect Pakistan to emerge victorious.
