Last season was one to forget for Pondicherry Women, who managed just a single win and four losses to finish second from last in Group B of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. The core of that team is intact this year, and they’ll be determined to turn things around with a stronger showing.

Their batting will have to shoulder much of the responsibility. The inconsistency from last year cannot repeat itself if they hope to make progress. The potential is there; it simply needs to click together this time.

Kavisha Elayaperumal is expected to guide the top order again, supported by M S Shailaja, Esha Mavi, and Yuvashri Karthikeyan, all of whom are capable of playing match-shaping knocks in the 30 to 50 range.

Abirame Ramamurth is their spearhead in the bowling attack, known for her ability to build pressure through control. Batul Pereira is a wicket-taking option despite her tendency to leak runs, while Sonal Patil and Yashi Pandey can keep the tempo in check during the middle stages.

Ayushi Garg will once again be the one to watch at the top. She was in solid touch in the previous Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, scoring 43 off 49 balls and an unbeaten 76 off 61 in her last two outings, both of which gave her side competitive totals. 

Sumitra Jat and Jyoti Choudhary are expected to anchor the innings, keeping the scoreboard moving at a steady rate. Babita Meena and Suman Meena can add useful runs through the middle, while Kaushalya Choudhary provides finishing strength lower down.

Their bowling looks balanced as well. Rinku Tak is the strike option upfront, and both Meenas have the knack of maintaining pressure through tight spells. Shanu Sen and Kaushalya Choudhary round off an attack that should test Pondicherry.

Early on, the surface may assist seamers with some movement, but it quickly settles into a spinner-friendly deck as the game progresses. The outfield is fast, so well-directed shots will reach the boundary, but the longer straight boundaries demand smart placement.
