The third editions of the SA20 got off to an exciting start as the 2024 champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, were thrashed by MI Cape Town by a huge margin of 97 runs!
Eastern Cape ended last season in such strong form that this result has made many cricket fans and followers from across the world wake up and recognise how strong MI Cape Town are.
However this game gives Sunrisers Eastern Cape the opportunity to bounce back immediately and to still have a win on the board by the end of match three. The question is, will Paarl Royals be able to shake off their losing run which dominated their final two-thirds of last season, and get their campaign off to a winning start?

We expect to see an all-English opening batting partnership of Joe Root and Sam Hain for Paarl Royals this season with captain David Miller likely to act in a floating role ready to come in and dominate the bowling depending on potential match-ups.
The Royals certainly have strength at the top of their order and in Miller have one of the all-time top T20 batters, but their middle order does lack match-winners or experience.
Their lower-middle order is packed with classy bowling all-rounders and they are more than likely to make vital contributions with the likes of Lungi Ngidi and Andile Phehlukwayo leading the bowling attack with the new ball. Experienced slow left-arm orthodox bowler Bjorn Fortuin will be the key spinner in the team.

As opening defences of titles go, Sunrisers Eastern Cape couldn't have got off to a much worse start against MI Cape Town as they found themselves blown away in the second innings of the match.
They were certainly in the game during the first innings which saw all of their five frontline bowlers pick up at least one wicket and captain Aiden Markram giving himself one unsuccessful over. The tall pacers in Richard Gleeson and Marco Jansen come into this game after taking two-fers in the opening match defeat.
With the bat, it can only improve after the Sunrisers were bowled out for 77 in their pursuit of 175! Markram was the only batter to hit a six and more will be required from the likes of Zak Crawley and Jordan Hermann at the top of the order.
Crawley scored 12 runs in his SA20 debut, but couldn't convert it into a big knock. We back the right hander to get his team off to a good start and score over 17.5 runs.
The Sunrisers had a disastrous start to the season, but they averaged 9 sixes per game against the Paarl Royals last season, and in their previous encounter against Paarl, they smashed 10 sixes. We back the Sunrisers' batting unit to bounce back and expect their total six count to exceed 5.5.

The forecast is for a glorious and sunny afternoon in Paarl on Saturday with the temperature in the mid-20s throughout. There will be a light wind with the humidity levels no higher than 35%.
There is always some turn for the spinners at Boland Park and this game will be no different. We expect a good contest between bat and ball with a par score no higher than 165.
Last season when these two teams clashed off in both teams, the total scores of the teams were over 150 runs. In this game we predict both teams to score over 150 runs, considering the surface that's on offer.
The pitch at Boland Park, Paarl, offers a lively track where the ball comes onto the bat nicely. In their previous encounter at this venue, these two teams combined for a total match score of 373 runs. We predict a high-scoring game this time around and expect the total match score to exceed 340.5 runs.
After MI Cape Town got the tournament off to a start by winning when batting first, we predict that both captains will go out for the toss ahead of this match wanting to bat first.
This looks like being an excellent contest between Paarl Royals who were so disappointing towards the end of last season and Sunrisers Eastern Cape who produced an awful batting show on Thursday. We are predicting that Sunrisers will take some time to get over that defeat and expect to see them lose once again.
We are backing Paarl Royals to win!
