After two weeks into the 13th season of the Big Bash League, Brisbane Heat are sitting at the top of the points table with 7 points. Defending champions Perth Scorchers, meanwhile, are in third place with 5 points from three matches. Their season opener against Melbourne Renegades was abandoned due to bad pitch conditions, but they went on to register two comprehensive wins on the trot since then. The Scorchers will meet the Renegades again on Boxing Day at Perth Stadium.

Defending champions Perth Scorchers have made the perfect start to their new season. After that abandoned first game, they have secured two comprehensive wins against Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes. In the previous game, they chased a target of 173 against Hobart in 16.1 overs and with 9 wickets in the bag.
Aaron Hardie, who top-scored in the match against Hobart with an unbeaten 85 off 44 balls, has looked in fine touch so far. We feel he will have another good game.
Opener Zak Crawley also got some good runs in previous match (65* off 46 balls), which augurs well for the team.
Also, keep an eye out for Josh Inglis. He has been in great form in the format these past few months, and a big knock is just around the corner in this tournament.
Perth’s bowling has been led spectacularly by Jason Behrendorff, who rose to the top of the wicket-takers list this season with a brilliant spell of 4-25 against Hobart.
Andrew Tye (12 wickets in his last 9 games) is also worth backing.

Melbourne Renegades are still searching for their first win of the season. After four games, they are second from last in the table with a solitary point that they got from their abandoned game against Perth earlier in the season.
The Renegades are coming off a six-wicket loss to Hobart Hurricanes at the Bellerive Oval, where their total of 183 proved to be below par.
Jake Fraser-McGurk has been the team’s most successful batter so far, scoring 103 runs in 3 innings at an average of 34.33 and a strike rate of 214.
Openers Joe Clarke and Quinton de Kock got off to brisk starts in the previous match, scoring 38 each. This is a good sign for the Renegades.
The likes of Jonathan Wells and Will Sutherland have been contributing as well, down the order with useful cameos.
The bowlers have done a pretty good job for the Renegades, with almost everyone among the wickets. Having Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Adam Zampa in your line up does help, and Kane Richardson has been quite on point as well.

The pitch at Perth Stadium is pretty good for batting these days and tends to get better as the game goes on. There is some help for the seam bowlers with the new ball, but batters will be pretty comfortable once they have played a few balls.
The weather in Perth will be breezy and cool.

Minimal TurnThe average score batting first at the Perth Stadium in domestic T20s is 164. The highest total posted on the venue is 213-3 by Perth Scorchers in 2020. The team batting first should target a total of around 190 runs to feel safe.
The only match played at Perth Stadium this season was won rather comfortably by the team batting second. We think the toss-winning side will be tempted to chase here.
Melbourne Renegades have only won three of 15 BBL games versus Perth Scorchers. Moreover, Perth has beaten them in their last five encounters. Looking at the complexions of both teams, we would say that Perth has the definite edge in this clash. They are also playing at home and have an extremely well-balanced side. The Renegades have yet to win a game this season and must be desperate. Their batting has to come to the party if they hope to overcome this strong Perth side. We reckon Perth should be able to dominate this clash.
