Northern Superchargers beat Southern Brave by 3 wickets
Sunrisers Leeds, with their new identity, couldn't get off to a winning start as they suffered a thumping at the hands of MI London in the season opener at The Kennington Oval in London.
Batting first, Sunrisers Leeds were bowled out for 143 runs in 99 balls. They did get off to a good start to begin with, as Mitchell Marsh once again showed his brute force, smashing 41 runs in 27 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes, while Ryan Rickelton scored 25 runs in 16 balls. This duo added 40 runs in 25 balls for the first wicket.
After a good start, the Sunrisers crumbled in the middle overs between the 50-75 ball period, where they were reduced from 84-2 to 95-6. Tom Alsop saved the team from a further collapse and scored 31 runs in 18 balls, depositing three maximums into the stands towards the backend of the innings and powering his team's score past 140 runs.
Defending 144 runs, the Sunrisers got off to a superb start where Brydon Carse dismissed both Will Jacks and Jason Roy in the first 8 balls. Nathan Ellis also got in on the action and picked up the key wicket of James Vince. At 51/3 in 44 balls, MI London were in a bit of trouble, which Leeds couldn't capitalise on as Nicholas Pooran and Sam Curran added 93 runs for the 4th wicket and sealed the game.
Despite having a strong top order, Sunrisers struggled to get going in the last match. They will look to correct their mistakes, especially the middle-order batters who gave away their wickets too easily, while the bowlers in the middle overs will have to come up with a good plan to tackle the strong Southern Brave batting unit.

Southern Brave, former champions and runners-up of the last season, had a really tough time in their first match of the season against Welsh Fire, losing the match by 6 wickets in a tightly contested match.
The Brave batted first and struggled to post a decent enough total on the board, losing the wickets of Jamie Smith and Ben McKinney quite early in the innings. Thomas Rew walked out and showed flashes of brilliance with his innovative batting, scoring 41 runs in 30 balls with 5 fours and one six to get the Brave's innings going.
David Miller consolidated the innings from one end in the middle overs and flourished in the end, finishing with 44 runs in 35 balls, which was not the most fluent of knocks from Miller. Meanwhile, Nikhil Chaudhary, on his debut, contributed 19 runs in 12 balls as the Southern Brave finished at 135/7 in 100 balls.
Defending 136 runs, Southern Brave failed to pick up wickets at regular intervals, though Daniel Worrall was once again brilliant with the new ball, finishing with figures of 1/15 in 15 balls, while Nikhil Chaudhary brought them back into the game with two quick strikes.
In the last 5 balls, the Brave had to defend 9 runs, but with 4 runs needed off 3 balls, Chris Jordan bowled a full-length ball which Salt deposited into the mid-wicket stands. Despite having the game in their hands in the last 20 balls, the Brave let the game slip away from them.
