The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) returns for its latest season on 26 December, bringing more matches, tougher battles, and a full month of high-octane cricket. Sylhet Titans take on Rajshahi Warriors in the season opener, in what should be an exciting battle. Both teams underperformed last season and will be eager to start off on the right note.

Sylhet Titans had a rough ride last season, finishing at the bottom after winning only two out of 12 matches. Their aim this time will be to break into the top four and push further into the competition.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is expected to take charge as skipper after managing 355 runs in 14 games last season at a strike rate of 133, while also chipping in with 13 wickets.
Zakir Hasan was their most consistent batter last year, scoring 389 runs in 12 innings at nearly 36 per outing while striking at 141. He will be counted on again, along with Rony Talukdar, Mominul Haque, and Saim Ayub, who bring much-needed steadiness to the order.
Moeen Ali can be a factor in the later overs, capable of adding handy runs from the lower middle order.
For the bowling unit, Mohammad Amir looks the one to watch after being in superb form this year across various T20 leagues. Ruyel Miah has also been dependable and should provide good support, while Azmatullah Omarzai and Nasum Ahmed give depth to the attack.

Rajshahi Warriors struggled to make an impact last year, finishing fifth after collecting six wins from 12 games and suffering six defeats. They have reshaped their squad slightly and will be aiming to deliver a much stronger performance this year.
Najmul Hossain Shanto takes over the captaincy and will be counted on to produce steady scores at the top of the order. He has over 3,700 T20 runs with 17 fifties and two hundreds will be expected to lead by example.
Mushfiqur Rahim will be another major figure in their batting lineup. With more than 6000 T20 runs, the veteran has long been one of Bangladesh’s most dependable players and can be trusted to chip in with 20 to 30 runs on most days.
Yasir Ali and Akbar Ali are also expected to provide useful runs in the middle order. Yasir, in particular, is one to watch as he was the team’s second-leading run-getter last season with 336 runs at an average of 30.54 and a strike rate of 153.42.
In bowling, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Ripon Mondol will shoulder the pace duties, both having the ability to strike breakthroughs with the new ball. Mohammad Nawaz, with his left-arm spin, and Sandeep Lamichhane, with his leg-spin, will also play important roles in containing opposition lineups. Nawaz is also useful with some handy runs down the order.

Sylhet International Cricket Stadium has a reputation for offering a dry, sluggish pitch that helps spin bowlers from the very first over. Batters often struggle to middle the ball early on, with the surface gripping and turning enough to make shot choice really important. Fast bowlers might get a little help in the morning session with some swing or seam, but spin is expected to control most of this match.
Sylhet's weather will be hazy and cool, and there should be no interruptions to play.

The average first innings score at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is 165. Most scores, though, tend to hover around 170-180 runs here. For this game, we reckon a total of around 180+ will put pressure on the chasing side.
Batting second is usually the preferred option in Sylhet, so expect the toss-winning side to field first here.
Both Sylhet Titans and Rajshahi Warriors have a lot to prove and will be itching to start their season with a win. On paper, both sides have plenty of firepower all-around. However, Rajshahi look to be more balanced across the board, which makes them the safer bet for this game.
