Vasteras United kick off their campaign in the Nordic Smash T20. It’s their debut season in Sweden’s T20 franchise league. Their first assignment is against Gothenburg Phoenix. Vasteras have picked quality players and they have a solid overseas pool. United are the favourites to reach top four in the tournament. 

William Bosisto will lead the side and his leadership will be key. He anchors the batting and helps blend the mix of local and international talent. They also have former West Indies player, Kesrick Williams, who can add value to their bowling attack. Williams has picked up 146 wickets in 116 T20 matches with 4-wicket haul on four instances. 

Binod Bhandari also gives a good option at deep for the United. The Nepali star brings a good experience of international T20. It won’t be easy for them to make a solid playing XI featuring four overseas players. Swedish players are mainly from the domestic circuit and it could be an issue for them. None of the players represented Sweden recently.

Gothenburg Phoenix are ready for the opening game of the Nordic Smash T20 Cup. It’s an inaugural edition of the tournament which is going to be held in Sweden. Gothenburg relied on core young players. A couple of players have played U19 cricket. They can be an underdog side of the competition. 

Darshan Lakhani could be a player to watch out  for. The captain is in good form with both bat and ball Yatharth Singh Chauhan is also a key player who came through U19 level. He is an off-break bowler and an anchor batsman. He recently participated in the 2026 Viking Cup. Both players were part of Sweden’s winning campaign at Viking Cup. 

They have Taimoor Ali, Lucky Ali, Patient Charumbira and Pawan Kumar who are overseas players in this side. Scott Steel is also a great option. He has experience of England’s domestic cricket. He has scored six half-centuries in T20s. Charumbira also gives an option of experience. The 38-year-old can be used in the middle to anchor the innings.
