Zimbabwe will take on Oman in their respective T20 World Cup 2026 opener in match 8 of the tournament. The match will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on Monday, 9 February.
This won't just be a full-member vs an associate nation match-up; Oman will still trouble the African side. Oman enters this match with momentum, having just beaten Zimbabwe in a warm-up match, who in turn would be hoping that this was just a one-off.
ZIM
OMA
After missing out on the last T20 World Cup in 2024, Zimbabwe dominated and qualified unbeaten for the African qualifiers. They won their warm-up match vs the Netherlands but suffered a surprise defeat against Oman. They will be hoping to avoid the same result on Monday.
Zimbabwe boasts a squad mixed of experienced campaigners and talented players. Among the experienced lot, there will be keen eyes towards the 40-year-old veteran Brendon Taylor, who has made his return to international cricket. He was in fact part of the Zimbabwe team that played the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. He has played 58 T20Is and scored 1185 runs at a strike rate of 122.9.
Captain Sikandar Raza will be looking to influence the game with his all-round brilliance, having scored 2883 runs and taken 102 wickets in 127 T20I matches. Opening batter Brian Bennet is a super talented player. He is regarded as the next big star of Zimbabwean cricket. He will form an opening partnership alongside Taylor.
In the middle order, Ryan Burl will look to anchor the inning. The 31-year-old played really well in the Tri-Series in Afghanistan before the World Cup, scoring 130 runs in 4 innings with a strike rate of 138.30 and an average of 65.00.
Bowling has some real good quality in the squad. Pacers Blessing Muzarabani (93 T20I wickets) and Richard Ngarava (108 wickets) will lead the bowling attack with the new ball. Both pacers managed to take wickets in the warm-up games.
Zimbabwe also has some outstanding spin bowlers like Wellington Masakadza, Graeme Cremer, Sikandar Raza, Brian Bennett, and Burl. They suit Colombo's conditions, with keen eyes towards Zimbabwe captain Raza, who bagged 15 wickets in the SA20 2025-26 season.
Brendan Taylor Total Runs Over 20.5 1.85
The only player to be still playing in the T20 World Cup from 2007, Brendan Taylor's one last push for a World Cup glory starts here and with his wealth of experience in T20 cricket (1185 runs in 58 matches, averaging 23.7), Taylor hasn't had a good start on his return where he has no scores of over 20 in the last five matches, but on a grand stage big players always step up.
Brian Bennett Total Runs Over 23.5 1.85
Brian Bennett's recent form has been phenomenal in T20I's where he has scores of 34, 9, 49, 49 and 47 in the last five matches. He is an aggressive batter who likes to take the attack to the bowlers and scores runs at a really quick rate. Given his current run of form, we back Brian Bennett to score over 23 runs in today's match against Oman.

Oman will be high on confidence after beating Zimbabwe in the warm-up match a few days back. The side led by veteran batter Jatinder Singh will be hoping to repeat the same result against the African side to get to a winning start in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Oman just cannot be brushed aside. They in fact have a competitive unit led by their experienced campaigner Jatinder Singh. The opening batter scored 55 runs in their victory over Zimbabwe in the warm-up game and previously scored 132 runs in 4 matches in the Asia Qualifiers.
India-born Vinayak Shukla is a prominent middle-order. He is well aware of conditions in the Indian subcontinent. He made his debut for Oman in 2024 and has already scored 409 runs in 19 T20I, striking at a strike rate of 140.6. Jiten Ramanandi is a fearless middle-order batter who scored a crucial 34 runs off 18 balls vs Zimbabwe at a strike rate of 188.89.
Sufyan Mehmood will be leading the charge with the new ball. The right-arm medium pacer is good at bowling pace-off and cutters and can swing the new ball, making him a threat with the new ball as well as in the death overs. He recently bagged 3 wickets vs Zimbabwe in the warm-up game.
Left-arm pacer Faisal Shah would partner him. He excels in bowling a tight line and length and hits the deck hard, grabbing 3 wickets in 2 warm-up matches. Medium-pacer Nadeem Khan can bowl at any phase of the game.
Oman have some great spin bowlers in their arsenal, including the likes of Shakeel Ahmed, Mohammad Nadeem, Aamir Kaleem, Jay Odedra, and Karan Sonavale. Shakeel took two wickets vs Sri Lanka A and six wickets in the Asia Qualifiers to help Oman qualify for this mega event.
Jitendra Singh (C), Hammad Mirza (WK), Ashish Odedra, Vinayak Shukla, Jiten Ramanandi, Aamir Kaleem, Nadeem Khan, Jay Odedra, Shakeel Ahmed, Sufyan Mehmood, Faisal Shah.

The Colombo forecast says the sun will shine through the clouds, and it may rain later. The temperature will be between 31 and 28°C with winds blowing at 21 kmph. There is a 10-20% probability of precipitation, so the threat of rain cannot be overlooked.
The Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo offers a typical Indian subcontinent pitch. In the early overs, the pitch is mostly flat and offers true bounce, which the batting team can capitalise on to score big during the powerplay. Later on, it starts to slow down; there is a sharp turn and variable bounce that the spin bowlers could take advantage of. Dew won’t be a factor in this afternoon’s game.
The average first-inning score on the ground is about 150. Only two games have been documented as having taken place there in 2010. The highest score here is 176 runs, while Afghanistan successfully chased 141.
Total 6's in Match Under 9.5 1.85
The last match played at SCC Ground in Colombo saw a total of 8 sixes been hit. The boundary dimensions at this venue are close to 70-75 meters and it is not a big six hitting ground. Both teams boast strong bowling lineups and hitting sixes is going to be a huge challenge here and we predict the total sixes in the match to be under 10.
Zimbabwe to win the coin toss 1.90
We back Zimbabwe to win the coin toss in today's match against Oman.
Batting first looks like the smarter decision here. The surface assists spinners more in the second innings with extra turn and grip. The past 2 T20Is here were split evenly, but putting 170+ on board and using spin to defend feels like the safer plan.
Zimbabwe is the clear favourite to beat Oman in this T20 World Cup Group B match. Oman did win against them in a recent warm-up game, but Zimbabwe have strong players who can change the match. Oman will count on captain Jatinder Singh for big hits and bowlers Sufyan Mehmood and Shakeel Ahmed for wickets. Still, Zimbabwe’s skill and experience should help them win.
Zimbabwe to win.
