Fresh from securing their first win of the 2026/27 MG ISL campaign on Matchday 2, Mohun Bagan prepare for their first home game of the season on Monday night. Standing in their way are Chennaiyin FC, who return from Bengaluru empty-handed after their latest defeat.

The Marina Machans have a point to their name though, and will be eager to add to their tally, but their recent record at the venue offers little encouragement.

Current Standings: Mohun Bagan currently sit fifth in the table with three points, while Chennaiyin are in 11th with just one point.

Head-to-head Record: Mohun Bagan and Chennaiyin FC have met 11 times in ISL history, with Mohun Bagan edging out their opponents with a win-loss record of 5-2.

ATK Mohun Bagan Preview

After facing criticism for their 1-0 defeat to NorthEast United, Mohun Bagan responded with a spirited comeback against SC Delhi on Matchday 6. Despite conceding first yet again, the Mariners rallied to secure a 2-1 victory, with new signings Lee Erwin and Miguel Figueira scoring decisive second-half goals.

Figueira also earned a place in the starting XI, alongside Anirudh Thapa, as the head coach made two changes from the side that faced NorthEast United.

 Key Players

Miguel Figueira made an immediate impact in his first start for Mohun Bagan, earning Player of the Match honours with a goal and three of the team's four shots on target. With Lee Erwin also showing improvement from his previous outing, the duo are beginning to look like a promising attacking partnership that could trouble defences throughout the competition.

Mohun Bagan Probable starting Lineup

Vishal Kaith (GK); Tekcham Abhishek Singh, Alberto Rodríguez, Rahul Bheke, Mehtab Singh, Lalengmawia Ralte, Anirudh Thapa, Miguel Figueira, Dejan Dražić, Lee Erwin, Lallianzuala Chhangte.

Chennaiyin FC Preview

Chennaiyin FC's lack of a cutting edge came back to haunt them as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Bengaluru FC in the season's first South Indian derby. Despite managing close to 20 shots, the Marina Machans could only muster three on target, highlighting their struggles in front of goal. Ramon Tanque was particularly wasteful, hitting the target with just one of his six attempts.

Having struggled in the opener as well, the striker still played the full 90 minutes, suggesting coach Clifford Miranda continues to trust him. Meanwhile, Madih Talal and Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu were the two changes to Chennaiyin's starting XI from their 1-1 draw against FC Goa.

Key Players

Ramon Tanque clearly has the coach's backing, and the onus is now on the striker to repay that faith with a more convincing performance. He is certainly one to watch. Madih Talal is another key player, bringing experience and creativity to Chennaiyin's attack, while goalkeeper Mohammed Nawaz could have a busy night against Mohun Bagan's attacking threat.

Chennaiyin Probable starting Lineup

Mohammad Nawaz (GK); Namgyal Bhutia, Emmanuel Imanishimwe, Nuno Reis, Muhammed Saheef, Ayush Dev Chhetri, Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu, S. Prakadeswaran, Madih Talal, Irfan Yadwad, Ramon Tanque

Unless Clifford Miranda has a tactical surprise up his sleeve, Chennaiyin FC could struggle to find the net. Their best bet is to remain defensively solid and hope to snatch a goal on the counter. The Marina Machans have lost three of their last four MG ISL matches, including two defeats to Mohun Bagan last season, both by a 2-0 scoreline.

More worryingly, Chennaiyin have failed to score in their last four league meetings with Bagan. With the Mariners unbeaten in their last four home league games, backing the hosts looks like the logical choice.

The bookmakers share that view, making Mohun Bagan overwhelming favourites at odds of 1.25, compared to 9.50 for a Chennaiyin win and 4.75 for a draw.

Mohun Bagan to win (2-0).
